WACO (April 4, 2014) A Waco woman who pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this year in an incident in which the SUV she was driving struck and killed her mother was sentenced to 10 years’ deferred adjudication probation Friday morning in state district court.
Gail Lehrmann Smith, 53, pleaded guilty in January to manslaughter in connection with the accident on June 29, 2012 that left her mother, Marguerite Lehrmann, 76, dead.
If she successfully completes the terms of her probation she will not have a final conviction on her record.
Lehrmann was struck by a small SUV in the parking lot of the Crisis Care Center, at 1200 Clifton Street, where she had taken her daughter for treatment of a mental health issue.
The daughter left the scene in the Toyota RAV4 but after a short time she returned and police arrested her.
Lehrmann suffered a severe head injury when she was struck and fell to the pavement.
She was taken by ambulance from the scene to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where she died a short time later.
