(July 16, 2008)—Relatives of a 91-year-old Stickney woman were startled to discover the body of another woman in what was supposed to be their grandmother’s casket when they arrived at the funeral home for a viewing.

The body of Lillian Grogan was supposed to be in the casket, but instead the relatives found the other woman’s body, dressed in Grogan’s clothes and wearing Grogan’s favorite bracelet.

They say the funeral home incorrectly tagged Grogan and another woman's bodies.

Grogan, it turns out, had already been buried and in the wrong grave.

Family members got a court order for the exhumation of her body

She’ll be reburied at a cemetery in Stickney.

Houston-based Service Corporation International owns the funeral home, and a spokeswoman declined to discuss the incident.

Oh my!!! That is so awful. Just think of the shock on the faces of those family members. Grief is one thing, but to have to exhumate your deceased relative prior to being able to continue with the process is simply unbelievable. I hope there is some kind of retribution. I'm thinking free services?

I worked for that Company and they had a lot of mix ups including infants that no one knows of to include leaving unembalmed twins in the funeral home all weekend I can't tell you how bad it smelled on Monday that is why I no longer work there. They are very good at covering these things up.

Ok first of News 10 needs to clarify that this took place in Illinois, not Texas. If you also do a search on Mrs. Grogan you will see that they don't know who this other woman is talk about a real mixup.

That's why it's best to be from a small town, with people that have known you most of their or your life! This wouldn't happen in a little town.
