(July 17, 2008)--The South Central Jurisdiction of the Methodist Church said Thursday it won’t block a public policy institute as part of the George W. Bush library complex at Southern Methodist University.
In a largely symbolic vote Thursday, 290 delegates voted on a petition from opponents of the think tank during a meeting in Dallas.
Opponents say they don't oppose the presidential library and museum, just the policy institute.
But SMU says the complex must include all three.
SMU has already moved forward on plans with the Bush Foundation since being named as the library site earlier this year over the other two finalists, the University of Dallas and Baylor University.
