The facta are 1. it is not a body it is a man. 2. doesn't matter is beer was there or not an accident happened and a family is in pain......leave them a lone.

Reporters turn things around all of the time, because that is what they are taught on how to grab people's attention. What do you expect from the media they are all like that. Ignorant people believe everything they hear, and thats why the media keep doing what they do,it makes money.....The ole mighty dollar

DARREN WAS MY LITTLE BROTHER. AS A FORMER EMPLOYEE OF CHANNEL 10,I REALIZE THAT YOUR STORIES CAN ONLY BE AS CORRECT AS THE INFORMATION HANDED YOU. HOWEVER, I WISH THE POLICE HAD NOT JUMPED TO PREMATURE CONCLUSIONS ABOUT WHAT MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE HAPPENED. WE STILLDO NOT KNOW OURSELVES. I DO REALIZE THAT TO YOU GUYS THIS IS JUST ANOTHER ACCIDENT, BUT WE NEED TO PUT SOME INTEGRITY AND COMPASSION BACK IN IN TO OUR NEWS ROOMS, AND BE CAREFUL HOW WE PRESENT THAT INFORMATION TO OUR PUBLIC. I DO NOT HAVE TO DEFEND BY BROTHER TO ANYONE,BUT WHEN WE FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED, I WILL BE SURE THAT THE POLICE HAVE THE CORRECT INFO AND THAT THEY IN TURN GIVE THAT INFO TO YOU, AND MAYBE YOU GUYS CANMAKE THAT YOUR SENSATIONAL STORY FOR THE DAY. I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO HELPED RESCUE MY BROTHER AND WHO SEARCHED SO DILIGENTLY FOR HIM AND FOR ALL THE PRAYERS AND WONDERFUL COMMENTS ABOUT DARREN. IT DOES NOT MATTER SO MUCH HOW DARREN DIED AS HOW HE LIVED.

If you could have seen the devasting effect your so called reporting had on the ENITRE family but most of all Darren's Mother you as a decent reporter (if there are any left anymore)you would have at the very least double checked your facts before going on air, or would that have meant you would have had to have actually had to do your job instead of reading off a piece paper that is handed to you.You took an already tragic accident and tried to turn it into something that it wasn't.....a drunken party shame on you for sinking to (you tube tactics). You really owe the family a full on air apology but as we all know it will not happen, to admit your station was trying to fill air time by sensationalizing a simple tragic unfortunatly sad ACCIDENT and made it so much harder on this family than it needed to be I hope you never have to personally to go through anything like this and if you do I hope the reporter does a better job than you did.

I went to school with Darren, and have only seen him a few times since he left. I am very sorry that this happened. My families prayers are with his family.

ct, yes waco pd did say alcohol was involved. i've seen darren drunk plenty of times so i wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't drunk, but that doesn't mean people need to run him in the ground without knowing what happened. it's not fair he's not here to defend himself, he was a really good guy. he is at peace so leave him alone.

the drowning on lake waco last saturday was my nephew. your comments on what happen hurt my family deeply. it is not your place to dertermine what has happened. i hope your families never have to go through what we have gone thru in the last week. darren is flying with the angels now. he would not want his mother to be hurt by the unkind words that you reported. god bless and keep you safe from all harm

Why sensationalize this tragic story? There are many questions left unanswered, but please don't jump to conclusions about alcohol being involved. Have consideration for the family and friends and what they are dealing with right now. This sort of news reporting makes me doubt the validity of other stories. Have some compassion!

This is very tragic. But to all who blame the reporter saying he found a few beer cans around, Waco Police were the ones that said alchohol was involved. Just watch the video. It wasn't a spin. NEVER jump off a aboat without a life jacket. Prayers to the family.

Prayers are with Darren's parents, family and friends in this time of grief. I didn't know the family, but having 31 yr old and 28 yr. old sons it is so difficult to imagine what this family is having to deal with! Liberal media tries to sway belief by putting their own spin on stories. I do not pay much attention to their "facts" these days! How I long for the days of Walter Cronkite and responsible reporting!

Saturday evening was one of the hardest things i've ever been through. Me and a few of Darrens closest friends were with him out at the lake enjoying the day when this tragic accident happened. I've learned how precious life really is because it can end at any given moment. Darren was one of the best friends i've ever had. He was like a brother to me. Through the good times and the bad he was always there. You cant replace a person like him. This world is a lesser place without him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Darren thanks for all the memories. You will be greatly missed by us all

In my opinion, Channel 10 has sunk to a new low. No one reporting on this tragic accident was there when it happened, so they have no way of knowing if alcohol played a role in this tragedy or not. How dare you assume that you know anything. This time should be about Darrin and remembering what an awesome person he was. Always smiling and brightening up the room wherever he was. You will definitely be missed.

Posted by: Just me Location: Waco on Jul 21, 2008 at 08:29 PM
Darrin was a fun guy to be around. Although I didn't know him personally, he already had a smile on his face when I saw him. I'm appalled that the news portrayed this as a "drunk fest" on the house boat we love to be on all summer.

Posted by: PD Location: Waco on Jul 21, 2008 at 07:29 PM
I agree with Laurie, the media really needs to just stick with the facts and stop insinuating that it was due to alcohol that this tragedy occured. Great job to the officers who worked this call. My prayers are with the family and friends.

Darren was a great man and his friends and family will miss him the most. He was a great singer and guitar player and what ya'll need to remember, Darren was loved by everyone who ever met him. He was not drinking, he went into the water to cool off. I hope none of you have to go through what our friends and family are dealing with.

How devastating to hear the statements Channel 10 has reported. Darren Williams passed away Saturday evening due to a DROWNING, and was recovered Sunday. How can you make the death of a son, grandson, brother & friend seem to many just another "alcohol related incident". Can't you wait for the results to come back? He isn't a minor! I believe this news on the "Body Found in Local Lake" needs to be fixed... Just think you have everyone believing at this moment it's another alcohol issue. Alcohol being on a boat does not determine he was drinking or it's the case of this tragic accident. He might have hit his head? Did you think of that? Lake Waco isn't the cleanest lake. It's so hold to believe we have know lost another young friend. Darren you will truly be missed. From childhood memories to being an adult, I'll never forget you! Always cracking jokes & having the room brighten up with your smile and laugher ... My prayers and thoughts are with you Bobby & the Family.

Darrin was an absolutely wonderful person. He always had a smile on his face. Although we have lost touch over the last few years with Darrin, there are so many fond memories. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family. Love, Keith and Jen

Darrin was a person who would give you the shirt off his back. A true friend who meant well in all his endeavors. He will be missed but never forgotten.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Darren & his family. He will be missed by all who knew him. Just to get the chance to meet him was a gift in it's own. That smile on his face put one on mine many times. O the stories.... You'll be missed!!

It's so sad that our local news stations want to sensationalize a story without any regard to family feelings. Darren was an amazing, kind person and to begin the news portraying alcohol being the culprit is degrading to the victim and family. How would they know? The news crews werent allowed down to the accident site and the autopsy not being performed sounds like just an over zealous reporter who got the info there was a few beer cans scattered around. With no regard to a family losing a loved one just throws that out there. His/her brother sister bet it wouldnt be just thorough reporting then. Not saying either way but c'mon lets at least wait for the facts!

Our family was out on our houseboat when this accident happened. Our thoughts and prayer go out to this family. What a tragic loss. May peace be with you.

Darren worked for my husband and me for a couple of years and we are in shock. Darren was a wonderful man. He was a hard working young man and always had a smile on his face. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
