ABBOTT (April 29, 2014) A teacher with the Abbott Independent School District has resigned after allegations surfaced that she had an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old male student.

The chief deputy with the Hill County Sheriff's Office confirmed his department is investigating the allegation but no charges have yet been filed.

School district officials sent a letter to parents last week explaining the situation.

It read: "On Wednesday, April 23, 2014 Abbott Independent School District was made aware of possible allegations regarding an employee of the District. The Administration took swift action to investigate the matter and the employee promptly resigned. This matter is currently under investigation by local law enforcement, and Abbott ISD may not comment further at this time.

"Abbott ISD is committed to the safety and well-being of our students and follows all applicable laws and policies in protecting them. Abbott ISD will continue to work with the appropriate authorities to ensure that justice is served, and our students remain safe," the statement said.

The teacher has not been named.
