LAMPASAS (May 1, 2014) A state district court jury returned a not guilty verdict Thursday in Lampasas in the murder trial of Jason Lee Martel, who was charged in the January 2013 murder of Curtis Lee Shed, 43, of Copperas Cove.

The trial started Tuesday.

Martel, Donnley Frank Richey, Bobby Ray Stratton, 23 and Frank Muns, all of Lampasas, were charged in Shed's shooting death after the victim’s body was found on Jan. 27, 2013, along a rural road in Lampasas County.

Muns pleaded guilty to the murder charge on Oct. 18, 2013, amd was sentenced to 25 years in prison with credit for jail time he has already served.

Richey and Stratton have not yet been to court and remain in the Lampasas County Jail.

At the time of the murder police officials said Shed and two other men got into an altercation with a group of people at a location on Lampasas County Road 3300.

The altercation escalated and at some point shots were fired.

After the shooting Shed's companions drove back to Copperas Cove with Shed's body in the vehicle, sheriff's officials said.

Someone later found Shed's body in the backseat of a Chevrolet Malibu that was parked at the Town Oaks RV Park, on East U.S. Highway 190, in Lampasas County and called Copperas Cove police who in turn advised authorities in Lampasas.
