Driver's Blood Alcohol Level Was Six Times Legal Limit Save Email Print

A | A | A

(July 23, 2008)—Rhode Island state police say they arrested a man whose blood alcohol level was .491, more than six times the legal limit.

Authorities believe it's the highest level ever recorded in Rhode Island for someone who wasn't dead.

The man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he drove his car into a highway message board on Interstate 95 in Providence.

Troopers had to carry him to the breakdown lane before taking him back to their barracks.

A trooper says a Breathalyzer test registered blood alcohol readings of .489 followed by .491.

The man was released after promising to appear at a court hearing Friday.

Too funny about heading south to Westfest, He'll be there Friday, but is looking forward to stretching his legs in Texas! Maybe he can break another record! "Dear Ma, Texas is hot ... but the beer is not! Set another record today .843! Can you believe it?! I'm still alive and kicking see you in 25-34 years after I get out of prison!" (I do not have a clue what the real penalties are... it's called a joke people.)

Having been married to this sort of alcholic, it is very possible that he never sobered up until he was in jail. When my ex was deathly ill and not responding to his treatment, one of his children finally told the doctors that he was an alcoholic. They put medicinal ethanol in his IV and he immediately began to improve. Seems he was having DT's. That was 10 years ago...he still lives and drinks...and is in his 70's!

Rachel, maybe you're the stupid one. The Cops did their job, it's the judge who released him... By the way, the majority of bloggers on here don't even like you..They like me!! :-)

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to know this man is a seasoned alcolholic. ANYone who didnt have a history of drinking would be dead from ETOH poisoning. Yet the judge...brilliant college educated person that they were, let him out on a promise to come back for court. Well, if he isnt layed out drunk somewhere he might. *shaking my head*

Posted by: Joe on Jul 23, 2008 at 09:32 PM
O Darn...he didn't kill anybody yet...let's let him out to try again, and hey, let him drive the person home that released him on a promise to be a good boy and come back.

ROFL @ Diablo! He was heading for WestFest and just got a "real early" start on the drinking. LOL And Unknown, yeah it happened Rhode Island, look at the tiny dot of a state on the map way up there, if you can find it. Sooo why should Texans freak out?

Wonders if this is the same guy that was arrested 4 times in 2 weeks time in the Midwest for DWI. Guess he made it to the East Coast.

Posted by: Kris Location: Waco on Jul 23, 2008 at 04:51 PM
I cannot believe this person had this high BAL without getting alcohol poisoning! Let's just pray he uses what brain cells he has left ( can't be many) and doesnt drink and drive again.

Posted by: connie Location: temple on Jul 23, 2008 at 04:34 PM
this guy was obviously a professional. Amateur drunks could not continue driving with a level that high.

How stupid can a set of cops be - Hello? I agree with the others who are posting.

Posted by: unknown Location: unknown on Jul 23, 2008 at 04:09 PM
Wow, if this would have happened in West everyone would be criticizing them and saying oh well that's just West for you. But it happens in Rhode Island and not one person on here is freaking out yet.

Posted by: Peggy Location: Central Texas on Jul 23, 2008 at 01:41 PM
The COPS only arrested him. Truth be known, they would probably have thrown away the key to the jail cell they locked him up in but some judge (J.P., magistrate, etc.)is the one who allowed him to post bond in order to be released from jail.

Reports are that he was heading down south to attend Westfest.

That's Road Island for you! LOL And yanks think Texans are stupid??

Posted by: Old School Location: Old School on Jul 23, 2008 at 10:42 AM
Hey Look!! He isn't from West. Oh my God!! (insert sarcasm). How about that, there actually is another drunk driver outside the West community. Maybe ALL Rhode Islanders are Drunks. Hey KWTX lets start profiling them as a Drunk State.

Posted by: El Diablo Location: Hell on Jul 23, 2008 at 10:32 AM
How the heck did he get all the way from West to Rhode Island on one tank of gas?

Posted by: cindy Location: hubbard on Jul 23, 2008 at 10:28 AM
why release him. next time he may kill some innocent kid

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 23, 2008 at 10:16 AM
If he was THAT drunk what makes them think he will remember that he's even supposed to show up?? And that's the highest ever recorded in R.I. and they STILL let him go?? Hello....... who's dumber here, the guy or the cops???

Posted by: me Location: copperas cove on Jul 23, 2008 at 09:28 AM
why do we even have a judicial system. All I have read all morning is stupidity on part of our judicial system!

Posted by: Anon Location: waco on Jul 23, 2008 at 08:41 AM
He isn't in jail because????? Because he promised that he would appear in court. Between now and the time he goes back to court he could get drunk again and wind up killing someone behind the wheel. What were the police thinking?
