(July 24, 2008)—A Waco woman is behind bars, charged with taking aim at her ex-husband, hours after their divorce became final.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 1500 block of Bryan in Waco.

Waco police say they responded after neighbors reported hearing what they thought were gunshots.

A police spokesperson said when officers got there, they saw a woman holding a gun in the front yard of the house, and a man hiding behind a car.

Investigators say the man was not injured, but the car did have several bullet holes in it.

Police say Gayla Valdez-Lind, 49, has been charged with attempted murder.

Her bond, according to a jail spokesperson, was set at $250,000.

The article doesn't say whose house it was, only that she was standing in the front yard of a house. She might have ambushed him coming out in the morning to go to work. Could have been his house. He could have come over to beat on her. Could have been her house. From the info given she could have been shooting at aliens and he was in the vicinity for all we know. But, she was booked on attempted murder. If he was at her house doing dirty deeds, I'm not too sure she would have been charged with anything, especially considering the state law in regards to the castle doctrine.

The only reason to ever shoot at somebody is in self defense. Or to make them dance like in cowboy movies. Thems funny.

Bet she found him in their bedroom with one of her friends. That is enough to drive someone crazy. So don't judge until you know HER side. Bad way to hand the situation but really would like to know the whole story. There are always two.

Instead of jumping to conclusions this woman is crazy, how about investigating the circumstances of the event. If this took place just after the divorce was final, he could possibly have been harrassing her. Whose to say it hadn't been going on all along. Men can be forceful is they don't get their way, ever thought about she may have been defending herself against a crime being commmitted against her..

Sounds to me like he was at "her house" antagonizing her. If he needed something from the house he could have gotten a police escort. Not enough details here to call her a whack job yet

don't make comments until you have walked a day in someone elses shows... my question why was he at her house? maybe she has a good reason to shoot at him. maybe he should of stayed away there is a reason why they divorced.. know one knows but everyone has an input

Posted by: citizen Location: central tx on Jul 25, 2008 at 09:59 AM
Doesnt' anyone think maybe the cause for divorce or the reason he was at "her" house has an important part of what went on. Maybe he deserved to be shot at.

guess she thought he wasn't supporting her well enough. this looney toon should be locked up forever. guess divorce wasn't enough. she must have been horrible to be married to. thank GOD the man ducked behind a car.

OK Angie, tell us a story about your wonderland so that all us wackos can come too. REALLY, don't you realize that life and reality are everywhere. With that attitude, I'm glad you don't live here. I would guess that Belton is a nice place to live and I am glad for you, but keep your snide comments about a place you don't know or live to yourself.

I guess she wanted more than half. haaa. well i hope the guy is ok anyways.

This is yet ANOTHER reason not to move to Waco, where the wackos live! The cops should have shot her, after the first warning!

Posted by: me Location: work on Jul 24, 2008 at 04:05 PM
sounds like he was smart to divorce her when he did.

If she wanted him dead she should have stayed married to him. He would have probably killed himself eventually....

Sounds like she was not happy with the out come.

What was she thinking?
