Woman, Trooper Injured During Routine Traffic Stop Save Email Print

(July 24, 2008)—A Department of Public Safety trooper and the 25-year-old woman whose car he pulled over were injured early Thursday when another vehicle veered off a Central Texas highway and slammed into the stopped vehicles.

KBTX-TV reports it happened just after midnight Thursday south of Highway 6 and FM 159.

Trooper Justin Stohler was in the passenger seat of his patrol car and the driver he stopped, Angie Maratita, 25 of Fort Rucker, Ala., was standing on the side of the road when a northbound car hit the two vehicles, one of which then slammed into Maratita.

She was taken to College Station Medical Center where she was in stable condition.

The trooper was treated and released.

No charges have been filed.

There seems to be a great many people who do not know that it is TEXAS LAW - reduce speed at least 10mph OR change lanes when approaching ANY emergency or Law Enforcement vehicle. I used to live in McGregor....Hwy 84 between there and Hewitt/Waco is a race track. No one drives the speed limit, and will run over those who do.

Sounds like someone was being nosey and lost control of the car. Hope the lady will be OK!

Ya, you tell them Debbie!!! If you don't like it, be a Cop and see how it feels to have your britches move along with the wind as a car passes you on a Highway!!!

This is why it was a good idea for Killeen PD to do the thing they did last week with stopping and giving people tickets that don't slow down or pull to the far lane when a police office has someone pulled over. Officer/public SAFETY!!! Not inconvenience or trying to make money on tickets!!!!

How STUPID do you have to be to hit a cop car pulled over?
