(July 25, 2008)--Hurricane Dolly left widespread damage behind at a favorite tourist spot in Texas, South Padre Island.
Crews are working to restore electricity after Dolly slammed the island Wednesday as a Category 2 Hurricane.
Texas National Guard troops and federal emergency officials are distributing ice, water and food.
South Padre Island officials say no buildings are in danger of collapse, but there's evidence of the power of Dolly in the busy summer tourism season.
Some buildings have roofs missing or holes torn in the side of the structures.
Avi Fima says his Surf Stop store on Padre Boulevard is missing windows and half of the roof.
Water bubbled up in the carpeting.
Fima says summer had started "really good" for his business, but to rebuild means the season will be over.
President Bush has declared 15 counties a disaster area in south Texas.
Insurance estimators put the losses at $750 million.
South Texas business owners impacted by Hurricane Dolly can apply to delay paying their state taxes during the storm recovery.
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs Friday announced the tax postponement schedule available to businesses cleaning up from wind and flood damage.
Businesses may request extensions of up to 90 days to file state tax returns that are due in July and August.
The order applies to businesses in the counties declared disaster areas: Aransas, Bexar, Brooks, Calhoun, Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Starr,
Victoria and Willacy.
