Armed Men Rob Convenience Store Near Waco Police Building

WACO (May 21, 2014) Waco police were searching Wednesday morning for two men who walked into a North Waco convenience store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint.

No one was injured.

Officers were sent at about 4:30 a.m. to the Alon store at MacArthur and Hillcrest Drives, in North Waco, where a clerk reported he had been held up at gunpoint.

The store in only a few blocks away from police headquarters at North 30th St. and Pine Avenue.

Poilice at the scene said the clerk reported two men walked into the store, both with their faces covered in black, produced handguns and demanded the money from the register.

Swanton said one of the robbers smashed the clerk's cell phone to try to prevent him from calling police.

The men left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and some cigarettes. Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Officers said they believe the men ran to a vehicle and left the area, but no vehicle was seen.

There were four units at the scene just after 4:30 a.m. and crime scene technicians were inside the store gathering evidence.

The clerk said both suspects were black men, one wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and black pants; the other a camouflage shirt and black pants.
