(July 29, 2008)--Police reopened the bridge linking South Padre Island to the mainland to all traffic Tuesday for the first time since Hurricane Dolly steamed ashore.

Traffic on the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge had been limited to residents of the island or people with business there to limit the number of people seeking a peek at Hurricane Dolly's destruction.

The island had also been completely without power, but service has now been restored to about 40 percent of the customers on the island.

A 9 p.m. curfew on the island will remain in effect while crews work to restore electricity to the rest of the island.
