BELL COUNTY (June 6, 2014) Bell County sheriff’s investigators were still trying late Friday afternoon to locate the scene of a shooting in a park on the south shore of Stillhouse Hollow Lake after a man with a gunshot wound turned up at the Temple VA Medical Center Thursday night.

“Sheriff’s investigators still are attempting to locate the scene of the crime,” Lt. Donnie Adams said in a brief update late Friday afternoon.

Tommy Pickens, 55, of Belton, who remained in Baylor Scott & White Hospital Friday afternoon, drove himself to the hospital after he was shot.

He told deputies he stopped sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Thursday to use a restroom in Union Grove Park when a man walked up and shot him.

After Pickens arrived at the hospital, the staff called authorities to report the gunshot wound.

Pickens was later transferred to Scott & White.
