(April 12, 2006)—Capt. Timothy Moshier was remembered Wednesday as a sometimes goofy but always goodhearted friend.
Moshier, 25, of Albany, N.Y. and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Michael L. Hartwick, of Orrick, Mo. both died when their AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopter crashed on April 1 during a combat patrol in Iraq.
The crash may have been caused by hostile fire, the Army said.
Both soldiers were assigned to the 4th Infantry Division’s 4th Aviation Brigade.
Days after the crash, an al-Qaeda-affiliated group released a video that showed gunmen shouting "God is Great!" and dragging a body from a flaming wreckage.
The group claimed the body was that of a U.S. pilot, though military officials have cast doubt on the authenticity of the video.
The video was mentioned only in passing during Moshier's funeral mass in suburban Albany, N.Y.
Moshier is survived by his wife Katie and ten-month-old daughter Natalie, who live in Killeen.
