(August 4, 2008) - A Central Texas Man is being called a hero, after his quick-thinking is credited with saving the lives of two women.
It all started when Lee Bauman says he noticed smoking coming out of an apartment unit at the Riverpark Apartments in Waco.
Bauman says as he approached the apartment he noticed a woman laying on the ground. He says he pulled her to safety before going back into the apartment. That is when he says he saw a woman slumped over the coach. He carried her out before putting the fire out.
Both women were taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation, treated and released.
Firefighters reported that one of the women sustained burns to her hands as she was trying to remove a burning item from the apartment.
Waco Fire Chief John Johnston said, "I think anybody who does that is a hero. He is an ordinary individual who did something extraordinary."
Fire Investigators estimate the fire caused about $35,000 in damages.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
