Mexico Condemns Medellin Execution Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 6, 2008)—The execution of Jose Medellin is being condemned by Mexico's government.

Mexico's Foreign Relations Department said it sent a note of protest to the U.S. State Department about the case.

The case drew international attention because of allegations that Medellin wasn't allowed to consult the Mexican consulate for legal help following his arrest.

Mexican-born 33-year-old Medellin was executed late Tuesday for the 1993 rape-slayings of two teenage Houston girls after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his request for a reprieve in a split vote.

In Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, where Medellin was born, a small group of his relatives condemned his execution.

A large black bow and a banner that read "No to the death penalty ... may God forgive you," hung from an iron fence in the front of the house where Medellin lived until moving to the United States at the age of 3.

John/Candy, with modern forensic science, and courts that give more rights to perpetrators than victims, it is very rare that an innocent person is convicted and sentenced to death. However, let's say there 1,000,000 violent criminals locked up, out of the 1,000,000 2 are innocent... would you release all 1,000,000 to spare the 2?

Posted by: Tim Location: Waco on Aug 12, 2008 at 09:30 AM
This Sam Bam person and Alamo dude is right on. You must be from Mexico. Did you and Candy dandy travel together? Can't we all just get along? Must you people fight, even though little John is wrong and Candy pandy is uneducated?

Posted by: Mac Location: TX on Aug 12, 2008 at 09:19 AM
John, it appears that this Mac attack is to much for you. I guess you stayed on the john to long. Wipe your face, that's not egg on it.

John: Executions is part of life here in Texas and hiding behind the name John does not fool anyone. You are an illegal who places ones life above another by race. It is easy to tell that you have little education and little research about the laws of this state. So, you two hot tamales get out of the kitchen if you can't stand the heat! Good legal citizens are running this state and if you kill here, The Great State Of Texas will execute your a.., no matter what race or country you come from!

Posted by: Sam Bam Location: CenTX on Aug 12, 2008 at 08:55 AM
John; Johnny, how long have you been married to Candy. Seems both of you went to the same school. I never heard of this word you typed: remmber. Must be some kind of liberal disease that affects one's basic thought pattern. Johnny, once again you have proven my point. Stupid people travel in packs.

HE KILLED MY FRIENDS I'M GLAD HE'S GONE...HE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO HURT ANYONE EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!i feel sorry for his family but he made bad choices for himself. all you can do is pray that god has forgiven him i personally cant forgive him for what he did. he mutilated/tortured/sliced/cut up my friends. it was very gruesome & i dont care to think of them hanging from trees with no eyeballs but this gang initiation needs to teach all gangs that its not all cut out to what they think it is or will be. thanks for reading-------------

Well, on illegal immigration, at least... I tend to agree with the other "patriot" about Hitler, and think Isreal should fight its own wars (without our aid and weaponry, for once.)

Posted by: Me Location: Central Texas on Aug 11, 2008 at 11:26 AM
Patriot, you always seem to post/say exactly what I feel!

Posted by: John Location: Waco on Aug 11, 2008 at 03:17 AM
I have to agree with Candy spelling doesnt count people you just want something to fight about. Our system is in a mess and you all know it how can you kill someone when in the news Its always someone that has been on death role for years to find out they where no guilty... No execution . And mac you need to shut your pie hole its open all the time were so tired of your crap.......And Sam Bam you just sound stupid thats all and remmber the alamo Your always running yours to and half the time you make no sense please all three of you just shut your pie holes and stick to the news and what is going on.....

When Mexico can do something for their own selves (like improving the living conditions and keeping their own people happy) then they can holler and protest. No one is listening at all.

Posted by: Suze Location: Waco on Aug 9, 2008 at 02:50 PM
Mexico's government has many issues needing attention. One is their own judicial system or lack thereof. The U.S. has a major issue in that this man lived in the U.S. illegally for the last 30 years! Not only did he live here without paying taxes, he also escalated his illegal activities and raped and killed two women. This is the very reason why the U.S. has to be more effective in not only stopping people from illegally entering the country but also removing those that have lived in this great USA for years and years. We continually find our country lacking in funds for the legal citizens, our elderly are living in poverty. All the while the US pays for this man's defense and provided for him all the years he was in the prison system as well. This is totally unacceptable.

Posted by: Jason Location: Fort Hood on Aug 9, 2008 at 02:37 PM
All that matters is that this scumbag has met his Maker and he will be judged accordingly. Justice has been served somewhat, that's because nothing can replace the lives of those girls. At least the victims' families can have some closure. And let this be a lesson to you'all ruthless murderers, kill an innocent person in Texas and you will get it likewise ! Just a matter of time !

Posted by: Texas Justice Forever Location: United States of America on Aug 9, 2008 at 08:45 AM
I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Mexico. I am sorry that one of your citizens chose to live illegally in my country. I'm sorry he chose to rape and torture two innocent young ladies. I'm sorry that the Great State of Texas chose to waste so much time and money keeping your citizen incarcerated. I'm really sorry that it took so long for justice to be meted out. To prevent this from 'EVER' happening again, please feel free to stop your citizens from illegally immigrating into our country.

Posted by: lori Location: french on Aug 9, 2008 at 06:46 AM
The only thing that matters here is the fact that this man raped & killed 2 people. It doesnt matter where he is from. Why would anyone defend this man? What about the rights of the 2 dead girls?

Posted by: El Diablo Location: Hell on Aug 8, 2008 at 08:19 PM
Medellin checked in today. I've already got him working on the highway crew. He's adding an exit ramp to the new Bush Library in Dallas.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 8, 2008 at 04:47 PM
It is not incumbent on the prosecution to ensure the accused has a good defense. A list is maintained of countries wishing to be automatically notified of thier citizens arrest. Mexico is not on that list. A Mexican defendant must make the request. Jose Medellin told noone of his illegal status and Houston Police were forbidden to ask. (Liberal cheerleaders for illegal migration cannot have it both ways) We found it out on our own. Medelin attempted to make an issue of it four years too late. (Not that it would have mattered)Guilt was so manifest that nothing would have altered the outcome. That does matter, you know. So, Mr. Medellin was wrong. The good guys did win. He's safely in hell where he belongs and moaning to the devil about how mean we were to him. I'msure the devil gives a damn.

Candy: Lady, do you have any idea what you are saying? Can anyone make sense of what she is trying to type. Perhaps, you could get a child to help you. They might be able to proof read it for you. I think you are against executions. Either way, you just executed a comment that is silly as hell!

JM. Your right, there is absolutely nothing wrong with immigrants, provided they come to this country legally. My Mom and Grandmother immigrated to this country and eventually became citizens. I have a cousin in Scotland that has been waiting 3 years to be approved. This country was founded by immigrants (the US as a country) and I personally believe that immigration is a good thing. BUT, when a person is here illegally and commits such an atrocious crime, they forfiet alot of rights. Someone said that if we were in thier country we wouldnt like to be denied contact with our consulate...your right. But having been in many central and south american countries, I can honestly say thier system of justice is not quite as fair as ours. Yes, ours IS fair, overall. We are NOT out to railroad illegal aliens. Our standards of evidence is vastly superior as well,(DNA errors not withstanding).

Posted by: Jeff Location: Lampasas on Aug 7, 2008 at 03:53 PM
JM, maybe you should learn how to punctuate before you send yours in.

Posted by: LN Location: Robinson on Aug 7, 2008 at 03:27 PM
IIe: Medellin did not ask for consular help until 4 YEARS after he was convicted. Please tell me how this would have made any difference in his trial? And if I went to another country the FIRST thing I would do is ask for the US embassy officials help. But right now I see no need to go to another country. If in the future I do go to another country I can assure you I won't be killing and raping two young girls.

Posted by: Mac Location: TX on Aug 7, 2008 at 02:32 PM
jm; Welcome to the debate slim jim! Your right slim , only 90 per cent are bad, the other 10 per cent hadn't got here yet. Please, eat all the produce you can and drink all the water you can from mexico. You don't understand, this is my life and no one, no liberal and no Obama will shut me down. When liberals say something half-way senseable and stop their attacks, perhaps then, we can meet on neutral ground. As long, as I am on the higher part!

Posted by: Texas Location: Texas on Aug 7, 2008 at 02:18 PM
To llE...the man had been in the US since he was 3 years old. Whining about not being able to consult a mexican attorney is a moot point. You cant pretend to be an American one minute then want to be a Mexican citizen when you commit a crime. You live in Texas, you commit a crime in Texas you die when Texas says you die. This punk put on the big boy underoos when he committed murder on our soil. He got a whole lot better than what those 2 little girls did. They suffered, he went to sleep. No comparison. To jm....the bus leaves on a regular basis. Anytime you dont like the way THIS country is ran...hop aboard big guy.

All of these comments are crap.Do you all have anything better to do,than talk bad about people from Mexico. Not all people from there are bad.And about the produce from there,Mexico is not the only country that we have gotten some kind of food product that was tainted.Give me a break.Oh and also,Some of you need to learn how to spell before you send your comments.

And one more thing to Im a Patriot too (I ran out of room)......I have been occasionally called a neo-con and neo-nazi on other news forums I debate, neither which bothers me a bit! ;-)

Posted by: Ile on Aug 7, 2008 at 01:05 PM
Everyone needs to pay for crimes one commits. Medellin should be behind bars for the rest of his life. What I do not read here, is that this precedent will come back to the Americans abroad. According to the international treaty, signed by de president of the USA, you as an American would have access as well to consular assistance when imprisoned and charged. It is your right according to this law. This law now has not been applied by Texas. How would you feel not being able to call on your consular assistance if this would happen to yourself?

Posted by: LN Location: Robinson on Aug 7, 2008 at 01:03 PM
And we care if Mexico condemns this execution, why?

Posted by: The Patriot Location: Texas on Aug 7, 2008 at 11:59 AM
To Im a patriot too...I think you misunderstood my comment. There are some bloggers on here that cry all the time about being alienated from the rest of the world because of Iraq. Europeans have been some of the biggest whiners. Simply stated... how soon they forget that we gave tens of thousands of American soldier's lives during WW11 to save them from tyranny. I believe they are a bunch of ungrateful liberal hypocrits who will probably be crying for our help again in the future. I don't have a problem with Jews as Hilter did, but I do with these lowlife leeches sucking $$ from taxpayers & destroying our country! TAMARA, I read your comment on the postal worker, Mac is right, same old illegal sympathizing BS. As far as your statement on Mexicans will be building the wall, if you're against the wall, yeah, get your sympathizing behind out there and build it! Lance.. at least learn to spell and compose a proper sentence before trying to attack. Joe, your wife's name is Rachel, right?

Texas needs and express lane in the death chamber. Illegals, and people who violate children and women to the front. We could have 10 a day if they would try. Disconnect that phone in there to. NO LAST MINUTE REPREAVES. ONE WAY ONLY.

Joe/Lance: I refer to her comment on the postal worker who was run down by a hit & run driver. She made the comment about mexicans are the only ones that will dig ditches. She is the one that said whites and blacks want do the work! Go ahead and look it up. As for getting a life, I have one. Making examples out of you two idiots! Joe, at least I don't ride a jackass! Lance, as for as a hot shot, at least I am not a dud as yourself!

Posted by: Mac Location: TX on Aug 6, 2008 at 08:25 PM
To Tamara: No black, No white, hispanic. This was a hispanic. Don't try to cushion this execution. Some people might fall for your hidden racist comment, to try and lump blacks and whites with the rape and murder from this monster. We are talking about an illegal mexican from mexico and you are still trying to down play it. Thought your smoke screen would work. I didn't forget your comment about blacks and whites are to lazy to do manual work and how the mexicans are the only one that will do the work. Wrong then, still wrong now. Several debaters shut you down and now the truth is out. Tamara is a racist! I refer to her comment about Social Security and she thinks she can slide this comment past! Go back to mexico, Americans still don't care what you think!

Posted by: Applauding Location: Eddy on Aug 6, 2008 at 07:35 PM
If his family and the Mexican governemtn were so concerned about him, why didn't they get control of him before he committed these heinoud acts on two innocent "American" girls? I'm really tired of the way the US almost singlehandedly provides support for the UN, but we get treated like outcasts!

Posted by: Marie Location: Waco on Aug 6, 2008 at 07:12 PM

Mexico seems to protect murderers;its citizens do not respect our laws; they ship drugs into the U.S.; they conduct human smuggling into the U.S. and now their army is crossing the border in Arizona... seems like they deserve a regime change like Iraq. We need to stop this at the border. I could not care less about what the government of mexico thinks.

Posted by: ras Location: centex on Aug 6, 2008 at 05:58 PM
Mexico should just say thank you to the US for supporting the crappy little country. On second thought, they should have all the "patriots" return to Mexico in protest. If there are none here, there will never be another one executed. Heck, they could even take all the Hollywood elite that are so disgusted with our country with them.

Posted by: Texas Location: Texas on Aug 6, 2008 at 05:05 PM
Being born in Mexico doesnt stop them from coming here to get free US government money. We should send Mexico a bill for all the years we fed and housed his butt in prison.

Mexico could give 2 shi!$ about the vitims that were brutally raped, tortured, and murdered. All they care about was that the criminal that committed these acts was of Mexican heritage, so they want to make an international incident about the whole thing. He broke a law while in the U.S., and should be punished accordingly. Just because he is a Mexican citizen by birth should not afford him any special rights or privilges. If an American citizen did the same in Mexico, would he not be held accountable just because he was American? I think not!

Posted by: TAMARA Location: TEXAS on Aug 6, 2008 at 03:08 PM
Eye for an Eye. Mexico is nortorious for kiling their own for less than this. He took the life, only thing is his was less painful and less humiliating than his victims death were. Black, white, Hispanic he got what he deserved, just less severe.

Posted by: Gary Location: Waco on Aug 6, 2008 at 02:57 PM

Having lived on the Mexico boarder I can certainly tell you the Mexican government doesn't care what the US governmants thinks when an American is in their country and does wrong. You are punished with out a phone call. Let them say in Mexico is they don't want to come here and follow the laws. After 911 we were afraid to cross the boarder due to the way American's were being treated. It wasn't good. And now they want us to care - I DON'T THINK SO! And as for those saying he should have spent his life in prison why should the Texas taxpayers have to pay for him to live?

Posted by: The Patriot Location: Texas on Aug 6, 2008 at 01:45 PM
Our biggest historical blunder .... we stopped at the borders we have now, ie.. the Rio Grande. We should have taken land all the way down to Mexico City. I don't give a !#%* what Mexico thinks about us nor do I care what any other country thinks. The world wants to curse the U.S. "until" they need help ...then we are first they call upon for that help. Whether it's been foreign invasion, aide or money, we have answered the cries of the ungrateful. Illegals are just that "illegal" and all should be deported. And the liberal Europeans, how soon they forget. They should think twice before condemning. You never know when another Hitler may appear on the horizon......

If anyone deserved the death penalty it was this guy. The crime he committed against those young teenage girls was horrid. He was a monster who should not have been allowed to take another breath after the torture he put those girls through. No forgiveness from me when someone commits a crime of this brutal nature. I feel for the families of these young girls and how they have had to deal with this all these years to know such an evil "no good for nothing" took their children away at such a young age.

Mexico is protesting the execution of a rapist/murderer,maybe we should have sent him home to continue his activities there. He wasn't given the right to counsel with his country, what about the two ladies that was taken away from their families. This makes sure that he won't take another life in this country or any other country. Who's feeling sorry for the women that he killed and their families? I said good by to bad rubbish.

Posted by: stephanie Location: groesbeck on Aug 6, 2008 at 01:09 PM
Boo Hoo. Who gives a rip if Mexico is mad. Keep your slime on your side of the fence and then they cannot commit crimes against people of the US. Put your concerns where they should rightfully be and that is with the victims whose lives he took. I am sure they took these girls lives with humane actions. Right. Their families also sadi that only God has the right to take a life. I don't recall God taking the two young ladies lives it was this scum. Go Texas keep up the good work. Maybe if we get rid of all of the death row deadbeats then maybe we can show some deterrant to committing these crimes if they know that in Texas we will kill your butt.

Who cares if Mexico condemns the execution of that monster! How many U.S. citizens have been executed in one way or another in Mexico? How many U.S. citizens have been denied access to their consulate while in Mexico? If they don't want us serving justice to their people who commit crimes in the United States then they should keep them south of the border.
