(August 8, 2008)—Police say a bus has run off the highway in Sherman, killing at least 12 people.

The accident happened just before 1am Friday on northbound US Highway 75 in Sherman. Lt. Robert Fair with Sherman Police Department says the bus had 55 people on board.

The Sherman Police Department confirms there were "multiple fatalities" at the accident scene.

Fair said the bus had possibly “blew a tire” before it crashed.

At least 19 other passengers were taken to Wilson N. Jones hospital in Sherman. Two of those patients were in the operating room at around 4am. The conditions of the other patients are not known at this time.

Hospital officials say the passengers of the bus were on a Vietnamese Church Mission Trip, traveling from Houston to Missouri.
