WACO (June 25, 2014) McLennan County deputies arrested a driver who refused to stop after he led them on a low speed chase through downtown Waco.

Yousseph Hamad Safady, 49, was held Wednesday in the county jail facing a charge of evading arrest in a motor vehicle.

His bond was set at $2,000.

Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon said deputies tried to stop a vehicle that was southbound on Interstate 35 for a traffic violation at about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday but the driver refused to stop.

The fleeing vehicle took an exit off Interstate 35 at University Parks Drive and headed downtown, Cawthon said, stopping at red lights and stop signs, but wouldn’t stop.

The driver went past the courthouse and was westbound on Washington Avenue and made his way to 11th St. and Franklin Avenue where he finally stopped, Cawthon said.

“He was obviously impaired and may have had other issues,” Cawthon said.

Deputies arrested him and took him to county jail.
