Fort Hood Soldier Dies In Iraq

(April 20, 2006)—Fort Hood Capt. Ian P. Weikel, 31, of Colorado died Tuesday in Balad, Iraq of injuries received when homemade bomb exploded near his military vehicle during combat operations, officials said Thursday.

Weikel was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division’s 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team.

He joined the Army in 1997 and deployed to Iraq in December, Fort Hood said, and had been awarded a Bronze Star.
