(April 21, 2006)—The Limestone County Grand Jury has indicted Mexia police Officer Jason Coffey in the fatal shooting of a fellow officer last year.
Scott Neal was a six-year veteran officer with the Mexia school district police department.
He was shot fatally on Nov. 22, 2005 during a training exercise at an old fire station near downtown Mexia.
The shooting was ruled an accident.
The Limestone County grand jury indicted Coffey on one count of criminally negligent homicide on April 11.
Coffey turned himself in to sheriff's deputies on April 14 and was released on $10,000 bond.
Mexia Police Chief Richard Hawthorne says Coffey has been placed on administrative leave.
