KEMPNER (July 29, 2014) Firefighters from Kempner, Copperas Cove and Lampasas battled a house fire Tuesday morning that was consuming a home about 3 miles southeast of Kempner.

Reports from the scene on Lampasas County Road 4804 were that the fire in the single-story structure started in the attic but firefighters weren't able to contain the blaze.

Kempner fire Chief Dewey Owen said the roof of the brick veneer home eventually collapsed and the fire destroyed the house.

The first alarm came in just after 5 a.m. after the residents who lived in the home reported they smelled smoke and evacuated the house.

Owen requested mutual aid from Copperas Cove and Lampasas departments just after 6 a.m. when he asked for more manpower and at least one tanker truck.

Owen said a fire marshal was at the scene trying to determine a cause of the blaze.

The chief said he was unsure how many residents were at home when the fire broke out but no one was injured.

Owen also said he was not sure what arrangements had been made for the family but they were displaced.

Fire units still were on the scene at 8 a.m.
