(August 13, 2008)—A fire that investigators think started accidentally claimed the life of a Hill County man Wednesday morning.

The man’s wife discovered the fire when she returned home just before 8:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The Hillsboro Fire Department, Whitney EMS, Hillsboro police and Hill County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, less than a mile east of Hillsboro on State Highway 22.

Hill County Justice of the Peace John Milligan pronounced the man dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy.

Investigators think a cigarette may have sparked the fire.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.

It is sad to read about these things. May God be with the family this man leaves behind.
