ROBERTSON COUNTY (August 11, 2014) A Franklin pilot walked away unhurt Sunday morning after he was forced to crash-land his recreational airplane in a field in Robertson County.
The accident happened just before 10 a.m. along Farm-to-Market 2159, about 10 miles north of Calvert.
Pilot James Shoemaker took off from the airstrip at Hilltop Lakes and was flying to Hearne to refuel when the engine in his Beechcraft 55 quit, he said.
A report from the Texas Department of Public Safety says the airplane crash-landed in a field and came to rest in a roadside ditch.
Shoemaker, who was alone, got out of the airplane and called for help.
Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were due at the crash site Monday morning, a DPS official said.
