Central Texas Man Kidnapped, Car Stolen Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 19, 2008)—Temple police were looking for a suspect and a stolen car Tuesday after a Central Texas man was carjacked while he was stopped at a local intersection.

Calvin Washington, 51, of Troy told Temple police he was stopped at the intersection of South 28th Street and East Avenue I around 10 a.m. Monday when a man opened the passenger door his car, displayed a small-caliber revolver and ordered Washington to drive him to a location between Troy and Moody, police said Tuesday.

Washington complied and the carjacker released him without injury.

Washington then walked back to the Temple area and reported the incident, police said.

The carjacker was black, about 20 to 25 years of age, stood about 5-feet 9-inches tall and weighed about 140 pounds.

He has what police described as a ragged beard.

The stolen car is an olive green 2004 Ford Taurus.

It has a Texas license plate that starts with the letters SVT, but the last three characters of the license number are unknown, police said.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Temple Police Department at (254) 298-5500.

The Temple Police Department is investigating this as a Robbery and Kidnapping. If you have any information that would led to the identification of the suspect or if you see the victims vehicle contact the Temple Police Department at 298-5500.

Maybe the reporting is miss-worded...but it does seem strange that he WALKED back to Temple.....Makes me think false reprot.....insurance fraud.....! I AM glad that he is ok!

Corey, Pendleton is south of Troy, Moody is north of Troy and there is a HUGE truck stop in Pendleton if that was the issue. If he was dropped off between Troy and Moody then walked to Temple he would have passed at least 4 gas stations, the city of Troy, several restaurants and his house to get to Temple.

I am so thankful this person made it out of the situation uninjured. I pray that God brings him comfort and peace, and that the perpetrator of the crime is found so that he does not have anymore victims.

The place between troy and moody would be the defuct town of pendleton and i can tell you there are NO stores between there and temple...its in the middle of no where. Im glad the guy is ok now, that must be one of the scariest things a person can go through.

If this man is from Troy, he got kidnapped in Temple, made to drive to a location between Troy an Moody, why didn't he just walk home? Why walk all the way to Temple to report it? Doesn't make a lot of sense the way it is reported.

I hope they catch that dope head and get him off of the street for good

I feel sorry for the man and glad he is safe. But why did he wait till he walked all the way back to Temple to report it. I think there are stores of some sort along the way, that he could have reported it faster. guy long gone by the time he got back to Temple.

This happened on multiple occassions in Temple several years ago.

No surprise here. The victim of this carjacking was lucky...could have been much worse.

Apparently, the suspect missed this instructional video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj0mtxXEGE8

That's good that the driver was not hurt or killed in this carjacking incident, and hopefully, they'll catch this coward, and by all means in the future please keep your car doors locked, and try to be aware of you surroundings. Take care
