(August 20, 2008)--Five men from a polygamist sect raided by Texas authorities in April stand accused of sexually assaulting children, but The Associated Press reports they're unlikely to be the only ones.
Church documents disclosed as part of a separate child custody case over the last several months identify at least ten other men as married to girls who were 16 or younger.
In all, about 20 underage girls, a few as young as 12, are identified in the documents as married to now-jailed sect leader Warren Jeffs or one of his followers.
Over six days in April, Texas authorities collected more than 400 boxes of documents during the raid on the sect’s secluded West Texas compound.
The Schleicher County grand jury that indicted five FLDS men on sexual assault and a sixth for failing to report abuse is scheduled to meet again Thursday.
