Teenager Dies In School Cafeteria shooting Save Email Print

(Ambulance carrying Central High School shooting victim Ryan McDonald, 16, arrives at UT Medical Center.)

(August 21, 2008)—A 16-year-old student has died after a shooting Thursday morning in a Knoxville, Tenn. high school cafeteria.

The shooting at Central High School was reported to police at about 8:10 Thursday morning.

Police say they took a suspect into custody six minutes later near the school and recovered the gun.

Knoxville chief deputy Bill Roehl confirmed the student's death.

The school was placed on lockdown after the shooting, and school officials were preparing to release students one classroom at a time, then bus them to a church so they could be picked up by their parents.

This means that Schools need to raise security for the saftey or our kids. They are suppose to burie us not us them. Back then Schools were safe but not anymore. This is very sad

This is prime example why we need prayers back in the school. What a tragedy and the school year had probably just begun. Parents please lock your guns up and see the signs of an angry child before they go and do something like this...... there has to be some warning signs parents just arent seeing..... i pray for the family and the whole community.

This is just another example of society gone wrong, i agree with William people should learn from all the school shootings that have happened in recent, i mean recent past and lock up the guns. GOd bless the family of the young girl who perished

TO: William Location: Salado....GIVE ME A BREAK.....The kid could have gotten the gun off the streets (ever heard of 'black market'?) Anyways, my prayers are with the family of the one that killed and the students that had to witness such a thing!

Good Job Tennessee, way to go! You caught him in under 10 minutes, in my book you get an A . Your evacuation plan is fantastic and you guys handled everything very well. Sorry to hear about the girl. I lived near Knoxville and it all seemed so quiet up there. It always makes me sad to hear of a young person losing their life.

Put this child and his parents behind bars, people that leave their firearms accessible to their children should serve time, put a lock on the gun and lock it in a secure container.
