(May 1, 2006)—Waco Regional Airport will play a role in the development of a system designed by a Houston-based company that could change the way airline passengers are screened around the country.
The first phase of development of the 3D Face Recognition System by Advanced Digital Imaging Research involves collecting pictures of 10,000 local airline travelers over the next two months.
Participation is voluntary, but essential to the success of the second phase of testing, which begins this fall.
“The active participation of our Central Texas travelers could well set the standard by which all airline passengers will be screened in the future,” said Waco Aviation Director Richard Howell.
“We need our travelers to be willing to have their pictures taken to support this test, “ he said.
The pictures that are collected will only be used to test the system’s software, officials said.
