Wild Dogs Blamed For Animal Deaths At Texas Zoo
Wild dogs are blamed for the deaths of animals at a Texas zoo.

(August 21, 2008)--Wild dogs that got into the El Paso Zoo after hours are blamed for the deaths of a pronghorn antelope and a sandhill crane.

Zoo officials say a similar attack five years ago left that same antelope injured.

Authorities believe three dogs got into the zoo overnight and made their way into the American Grasslands exhibit.

Guards heard barking and found two pit bulls and a German shepherd.

El Paso police and animal control experts were summoned, but the feral dogs managed to flee.

There was no immediate word on how the dogs got into the El Paso Zoo, which is surrounded by an eight-foot-tall chain-link fence that's topped with barbed wire.

Investigators are looking into whether the dogs managed to dig their way under the fence.

Health department officials say traps will be put out in the area to try to catch the dogs.
