(August 21, 2008)—Another round of storms fired up Thursday afternoon in Central Texas, producing thunder, heavy rain and a possible funnel cloud over Fort Hood.
A News 10 viewer photographed the funnel cloud at 3:10 p.m. Thursday, looking north from Clear Creek Road.
The funnel cloud did not show up on radar.
The photograph has been forwarded to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
A severe thunderstorm warning was briefly in effect Thursday afternoon for east central Bell County,
The main problem, however, was high water
Storms dumped an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain on ground too saturated to absorb any more moisture, causing flooding of streets and low lying areas.
Flash flood warnings and flood advisories were issued for several area counties including Bell and McLennan.
There were reports of flooded streets and parking lots in Temple especially in the area of 57th Street and Loop 363 and along parts of 31st Street.
Some motorists were reportedly stranded by the high water, but there were no reports of injuries.
The weather may also have been a factor in a series of accidents.
In Temple, police responded to a dozen accidents between 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday, including two multi-vehicle accidents on southbound Interstate 35.
One of the interstate accidents involved three vehicles and the other involved a half a dozen vehicles and an 18-wheeler.
There were no reports of serious injuries.
