(August 22, 2008)-- Dramatic video from the helmet-mounted camera of a police officer shows the frantic efforts to rescue two men trapped in the wreckage of a small plane that crashed on a Central Texas baseball diamond, missing a nearby group of children.

The plane came to rest near the pitcher’s mount on the baseball field in Caldwell Wednesday night.

The police video shows rescuers and spectators rushing to the wreckage, talking to the two men and trying to gently remove them from the debris.

One man is heard being asked if he remembered what happened, and he replied "no."

Authorities say the single-engine Cessna was flying from Sugar Land to Waco when 39-year-old pilot Cole Reed of Georgetown reported engine problems.

He tried to make an emergency landing at the Caldwell airport, but the plane struck a light pole at the nearby baseball field and crash landed on the infield about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

There were no injuries on the ground, where players and coaches were in the outfield.

Reed was taken to Scott and White Hospital in Temple.

His 24-year-old passenger, Bryan Farney of Taylor, was taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.
