(August 23, 2008)—Democrats used their weekly radio address to attack Republican presidential candidate John McCain as as someone who "doesn't get it" when it comes to fixing the economy and helping struggling families.
Former New Hampshire Gov. Jeanne Shaheen said McCain's economic plan is "four more years of George Bush's economic plan."
Shaheen says that means "four more years of record spending, record deficits, record giveaways to the special interests and a reckless disregard for the middle class."
Shaheen, who is making her second run for the U.S. Senate in a closely watched rematch campaign against Sen. John Sununu, said Barack Obama "will lay out a new direction" for jump-starting the economy and rebuilding a strong middle class when he speaks at the upcoming Democratic National Convention.
Shaheen was elected the first woman governor in New Hampshire in 1996.
She served three two-year terms before running unsuccessfully against Sununu in the 2002 Senate race.
