Stabbing Victim’s Cries For Help Ignored Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 25, 2008)--Investigators say neighbors of waited more than a half an hour to call police after hearing a woman's screams for help as she was being stabbed to death at a New York City apartment.

Police found Ebony Garcia, 21, lying in a pool of blood at about 2:10 a. m. Saturday.

She had been stabbed about a dozen times and died two hours later at a local hospital.

Witnesses say neighbors ignored the woman's screams for more than 30 minutes before someone finally called the police.

One neighbor said she ignored the cries because she thought the victim had been drinking.

Police want to question Garcia's boyfriend, against whom she had obtained a restraining order.

I agree with TexasLocation. People up north are rude, so them ignoring a woman's bloodcurdling screams for help doesn't surprise me; it saddens me, yes, but doesn't surprise me. And people think about it- do you really think this woman's screams sounded like that of a drunk person? She was stabbed a dozen times. I'm sure she sounded like a person who was in dire need of help and bleeding to death. The neighbor's just want to say she sounded drunk, because they don't want it on their conscience that they completely ignored a woman's cries who was being stabbed to death by her abusive ex-boyfriend. It's sad and disgusting how he abused and then ultimately killed her and how those heartless people ignored her cries. Not to mention, the cars that rode by her. I pray that this never happens to any of their daughter's or them. RIP Ebony Garcia & Nalisha Gravely. You have your wings now, spread them and fly.

Ebony Garcia? Seriously? EBONY GARCIA? I would look for a suspect named Deshantel Lopez or Shaniqua Ramirez.

Apparently speaking the TRUTH makes one "ignorant" these days? Interesting. When did the definition change?

Welcome to NYC. I have been there and people there wont even say hello to you. This doesnt suprise me at all. Most people live to themselves because you never know who is living beside you. I was very glad to come back to Texas.

Witnesses say neighbors ignored the woman's screams for more than 30 minutes before someone finally called the police. Either this is bad report or the witnesses are just as sorry as the neighbors. The witnesses witnessed the neighbors doing nothing to help her...

This is to the ignorant that posted the second comment, just because she has a hispanic name does not make her Mexican. And even though she was, Mexicans are not the only neighbors that are loud so instead of coming on here posting ignorant comments like that just get a life.

Yeah, I have lived next door to Mexicans and didnt have any problems. I have lived next door to blacks and didnt have any problems. I dont care for my Guamanian neighbor right now but I certainly wouldnt blanket all people from Guam under that same blanket statement of ignorance. Me, your an idiot. I HOPE the people who ignored her cries for help live with this guilt for a long time.

I wonder how the people that ignored this poor womans screams for help would feel if this had been their daughter or sister. And now that she has been killed, I wonder how they are going to sleep at night. My deepest sympathy goes to the family for their loss. I am so sorry that the people that heard her screams did not help her but please don't judge all people by their actions. There is still some good people left in the world. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. May God grant you strength to help you through this difficult time. Lean on Him, He is right there. Just Call on Him.

Yes this is very sad, but that just goes to show you how now days people are afraid to get involved for fear of getting hurt or killed themselves. I don't know what the solution may be, but people need to feel safe, not afraid. God bless this young ladies family and i hope that justice is swift and severe for the person that did this.

what is the world coming to when people ignore cries for help??? How can someone sit by for a half hour and listen to someone screaming and not do anything about it??? I'm sorry but i'm not that patient. To the family of friends...i am so sorry for your lose. you are in my prayers. May God grant you peace.

Have any of you who would consider this "sad" ever lived next door to Mexicans? Unfortunately, I have... and, after a while, one gets used to all the screaming and learns to ignore it.

There is only one word for this. Sad.
