(August 25, 2008)—The Mexican drug war could cross the border after warring drug cartels gave hit men permission to enter the United States to kill their targets, according to warnings that U.S. authorities have received.

Police and federal agents told The Associated Press about the warnings Monday, and officials along the border are beefing up security.

El Paso spokesman Officer Chris Mears says authorities learned of the threat last week.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Border Patrol officers have also been told about the threat and have ramped up security at border crossings.

Drug cartel violence has claimed thousands of lives across Mexico this year.

Nearly 800 people have been killed this year in Ciudad Juarez, a hard-scrabbled city of about 1.3 million people across the Rio Grande from El Paso.

Border problems are easy to fix, firts stop doing drugs so drug cartels wont have customers to sell their drugs, second get people to do the work inmigrants do the point is nobody is willing to do it . we need to stop blaming the goverment for everything,if they deport the criminals gansters, drug dealers but what we see is goverment going to factories to deport people that is working, while the criminals are on the street anyway ilegals aport more than what some of them get from welfare. if you want to make this country better, stop using drugs so they dont make money and stop looking for excuses all we need to do is serve tables at restaurants, work at construction sites, and factories just do what 90% of people is not doing, maybe we can have a better country when we do what illegals are doing them we probably see a change. are you willing to do it?

border problem is very simple, use eminent domain to obtain a 1 mile wide stip of texas land at the border, then turn over the land to the military as a live firing range, tanks, missiles, artillery, everything. it would slow the flow of those traveling through the rural areas

RE: Me Location: Central Texas "Oh... wait... I should be more politically correct, these "people" are only coming here to better their lives (at the expense of ours), and we should turn a blind eye to it."....That is exactly what our governor Rick Perry is doing!

Tony, if you can't speak the language, it's better not to try to write it. Your posting doesn't really make sense. I understand you are trying to insult people who want to enforce security at the border, but you aren't real clear. good luck!

Me = idiot

Why don't they just shoot everyone that even gets close to crossing the borders and then we wouldn't have this problem. Separate Texas from Mexico and make it impossible for them to come over here. I'm sick and tired of my kids having to grow up in a state where they just don't care. We are starting to become the minority even in their school classes which makes me disgusted. My husband and I work our butts off to provide for our family with no help from the state and then these illegals come right over get on medicaid and foodstamps and live a luxurious lifestyle because 30 of them live in a house and bring in thousands a week. Just get rid of them and life would be better. Shoot them all.

P.S. Better run along, Tony, I hear they're going to be cracking down on the illegal aliens in Waco soon.

Posted by: Me Location: Central Texas on Aug 26, 2008 at 11:20 PM
I'd gladly do it, if it were legal to shoot them as they cross.

Don't "tighten it", lock it up, shut it down, close it! Shoot at anyone that trys to sneak over, first shot over their heads, second one in the leg.

They are coming here after big business men in America because they have been funding this type of crap for years, but have never been caught.

Marlin, you have it all figured out don't you. Fortunately, you are in Marlin, a good place for you and not in politics. Maybe you would like it if other countries followed the shoot on site for the U.S. citizens? The problem with drug cartels is, that they are fueled with billions of dollars in revenue that crome from all the American drug users. As long as there is money being spent here, the risk will never be too high for anyone to bring it over. We must fight the border drug war while at the same time fighting the USING of drugs here, there will never be sellers if there are not any users. Also,I love my guns and the 2nd amendment, but i dont think everyon should carry one, there are too many idiots that are also hot heads with enough money to purchase a handgun (catch my drift?).

if there was no demand like there is in the u.s there wouldnt be such large amounts of supply the truth is americans are drug addicts!!! and thats why there is such a need for the supply it is the demand that drives the whole thing

Step #1 would be to quit prosecuting Border Patrol Officers. Step #2 would be to issue "shoot on sight" orders for any illegal who is armed on on this side. Step #3 would be to issue orders that if fired upon from the Mexican side, return fire. Step #4 is FINISH THE WALL AND DEPORT THE ILLEGALS HERE. Step #5 is prosecute any employer who hires illegal aliens. Finally a STEP #6 would be to change Texas law to allow OPEN CARRY WITHOUT A LICENSE for any Texas citizen, at any time, anywhere. Licensed CCW is okay, but I do not believe it is the deterent to crime open carry would be. Granted the criminals currently has to wonder who is armed. If open carry was the law, then the criminals would have to wonder who is carrying concealed to assist the ones obviously armed! If you get right down to it, I do not believe concealed carry should require a license either. Vermont and Alaska have it right. No license required concealed carry. Texas should do the same. That's the real 2nd Amendment!

Our border security is a joke. When was the last time you drove to the border? Our borders are open and until the government takes a stand its going to remain that way. Everyone says its up to the federal government to handle this problem but thats a cop out. Our governor should stand up and cover our borders. Do whats needed to stop whats going on there. Instead, he sits in Austin and does nothing but pose for pictures and shakes hands.

How do we take out the dealers when two of our border patrol officers are serving time for doing their job by shooting one of them in the butt.

Posted by: Tommi Location: Minneapolis on Aug 26, 2008 at 12:31 AM
I think the US border security is much better compare to the 80's in stopping the drugs coming across our border.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 25, 2008 at 10:29 PM
Maybe if they all kill each other the world would be a better, safe place, but then again innocent people get caught up in the mix.

Posted by: Me Location: Central Texas on Aug 25, 2008 at 05:44 PM
Oh... wait... I should be more politically correct, these "people" are only coming here to better their lives (at the expense of ours), and we should turn a blind eye to it.

This wouldn't be an issue if our borders were actually protected!!!

The United States needs to have a covert operation to take out all these drug dealing killers once and for all. We need to start from Columbia all way through Central America and up through Mexico and get rid of any one from the smallest to the biggest in all the drug cartels. At the same time go after the illegal farmers. Do not give any more foreign aid to any of these countries until they erradicate the poppy fields. Pretty soon our southern border cities will be overrun with turf wars for drug dealers unless we put a stop to it before it happens. When will we get the guts to do it?
