(August 25, 2008)--Authorities say a civilian contract employee who worked in Iraq will be returned to Texas to face allegations of sexual assault in Iraq after he was named in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Waco.
The FBI says Jorge Thornton, 27, was arrested Sunday at Fort Benning, Ga., charged with aggravated sexual abuse.
He appeared Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge G. Mallon Faircloth in Columbus, Ga.
An indictment handed up by the federal grand jury in Waco says Thornton worked in Tal Afar, western Iraq for BlackHawk Management Corporation, a Houston-based company that provides logistical support to U.S. forces at Forward Operating Base Sykes at Tal Afar.
The indictment says he forced sexual contact on a woman there on June 14, but it doesn’t indicate whether the victim was a soldier or another civilian contractor.
