Judge Says Half-Ton Texas Murder Suspect May Remain At Home Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 26, 2008)--A South Texas woman who weighs nearly a thousand pounds who’s charged in the death of her 2-year-old nephew will await trial at home after a judge’s ruling because, prosecutors say, the Hidalgo County Jail lacks a cell big enough or medical resources suitable for her.

A state district judge agreed Monday not to jail Mayra Rosales provided she wear a global positioning system tracker until her trial.

The 27-year-old woman was charged with capital murder in the March 18 death of Eliseo Gonzalez Jr.

Prosecutors say the toddler was hit at least twice in the head while in the care of the bedridden Rosales.

Prosecutors say the boy's 20-year-old mother, Jamie Rosales, left the toddler with his bedridden aunt even though she knew that the woman was incapable of caring for him.

She faces a count of felony injury to a child, punishable by life in prison.

Yeah great, MORE illegals doing work Americans won't huh? She should be fed crackers and water and left in the prison yard with a tarp until the moron loses enough weight to walk indoors. Monster!

Her weight should not be a reason to not punish her for what she did. Just because she is a sick and twisted person who at the young age of 27 has eaten soo much that she weighs half a ton. That is disgusting. She needs physical and mental help. What could a 2 year old do that warrants hitting him so hard that you kill him. There is no excuse for what she did.

First, let me say I COMPLETELY agree with all of you who have posted so far. But working for a County Sheriff Dept. for 9 years, I can see why they let her stay at home. The Sheriff's Dept. does not have the manpower to watch her while she is housed anywhere other then jail (i.e., an airplane hangar). They also do not have the resources to house her in jail. Yes, I think it sucks that she is still able to stay home, but from an economic/budget standpoint, I understand why they did it. Most Sheriff's Departments barely make it through the fiscal year as it is, so something like this, with the ability to cost up to $5K a day, YIKES! I'm sure their "Pucker Factor" was in high gear when told that. So, while I DO NOT agree with it, I do understand it.

They need to take her television and twinkies away for this to be any form of punishment.

Cut off her food stamps and let her starve to death!

Posted by: Jeremy Location: Gatesville on Aug 26, 2008 at 09:17 PM
I agree with Bob, and Just sayin is all. This is pathetic. Guess there is no hope for her getting the chair either. She probably can't fit in that either. What a waste of a human life.... I see a reality show in her future!

wow, now she can continue living in the lifestyle she has become accustomed too. And gain another 200 or 300 lbs. That way, they wont put her in jail because it would be cruel and unusual punishment. She can keep eating twinkies will she explodes.

why not put her in a air plane hanger and guard her and limit food intake until they can find a suitable place for the woman to serve the time she deserves for killing a small inocent child. I be God can find a place big enough for her and it won't be cool.

Well, that's teaching her a lesson! Somebody needs to hit the judge in the head.

Posted by: Me Location: Waco on Aug 26, 2008 at 01:59 PM
I guess we all now know a sure fire way to get away with murder.

Posted by: Bob Location: Belton on Aug 26, 2008 at 01:33 PM
Just another liberal letting a murder off the hook.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 26, 2008 at 12:09 PM
They could just put her in a small room with a bunch of hungry rats. The biting and chewing at her body where she can't reach...torture and slow death.
