(August 27, 2008)--An emergency custody hearing was expected Wednesday morning to determine who will care for four Houston children found alone in 'deplorable' living conditions.
The four siblings, ages 1 to 7, were taken into temporary custody by Child Protective Services Tuesday after the eldest child stopped a stranger outside a northwest Harris County apartment complex and asked for a ride to school.
The Houston Chronicle reported that the woman dropped the child off at school and then called authorities.
Apartment manager Eve Jordan told the newspaper she found the children sitting on the floor inside the apartment.
She said the apartment was full of garbage and flies and had feces smeared on the bathroom and maggots inside the refrigerator.
CPS had the children evaluated at a local hospital and placed them in foster care Tuesday night.
