Emergency Hearing Set For 4 Texas Children Found In “Deplorable Conditions” Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 27, 2008)--An emergency custody hearing was expected Wednesday morning to determine who will care for four Houston children found alone in 'deplorable' living conditions.

The four siblings, ages 1 to 7, were taken into temporary custody by Child Protective Services Tuesday after the eldest child stopped a stranger outside a northwest Harris County apartment complex and asked for a ride to school.

The Houston Chronicle reported that the woman dropped the child off at school and then called authorities.

Apartment manager Eve Jordan told the newspaper she found the children sitting on the floor inside the apartment.

She said the apartment was full of garbage and flies and had feces smeared on the bathroom and maggots inside the refrigerator.

CPS had the children evaluated at a local hospital and placed them in foster care Tuesday night.

I am a single mom with 3 children. I work a full time job and do side jobs to help me. I admit it is hard and sometimes I worry if we will have food. I walk to work because I can't afford gas and insurance in my car. But I would NEVER allow anything like to this to happen to my children. There is no excuse for this and both parents need to be held accountable. There is not an excuse they can give that will make me feel sorry for them.

What is WRONG with some people in this day & time...I just can't understand why someone would treat precious babies that way. God bless their hearts and punish the parents to the fullest extent of the law. How dare them to treat the children that way. Hope they have fun burning in hell...

The Houston Chronicle story mentions several neighbors admitting they knew the children were often home alone, and also said the children begged for food from them. So why didn't anyone report this to the authorities? Then the children's father said he checked on them daily. Daily??? Either he did check daily and ignored the squalor, or more likely he didn't check daily. Either way, he shouldn't be granted custody.

OK OK! My comments were mainly to those who come on here and automatically assume that it is always mexicans who are abusing thier kids, Guess I could have taken it further and been more concise. It just gets old when you have people on here that automatically focus on ethnicity and immigration status and not on the topic itself which is abysmal treatment of children. I apologize. And for the record, I am white and can only WISH I had a maid or butler or someone to cut my dang grass...lol

you know what? it don't matter what the race is, we are not talkin' about race. we are talkin' about precious, innocent, children, and the conditions they were left in. it was totally uncalled for as a parent to do that to them. i hope the parents get the most severe punishment, and their parental rights taken away from them. those kids don't need to be returned back to them, cause more than likely, it'll happen again. yeah, the father says he don't live there, but he should get some punishment, cause he said he was there a few nights before, and if he knew what was goin' on, he, as a father, should've done somethin' about it. and as for the lady who gave the lil' girl a ride to school, thank goodness you were at the right place at the right time. lord knows what would've happened to these kids, if they were left in that condition any longer..CHEERS TO YOU!! hopefully they are in a better place now and gettin' taken care of properly....MAY GOD BLESS THE LIL' CHILDREN

Usually Just sayin is all in Ft. Hood, has good comments. He/she went off the deep end this time. "White Trashylvania, it's right next to Trailercortia"??? The family was black... El Stupida, who probably employs an illegal has their personal maid. Check you facts before you post El Stupida.

Posted by: hb Location: Killeen on Aug 28, 2008 at 06:20 PM
For the IDIOT who made the comment that these people were Mexicans, get your facts straight. They were not Mexican! They also were not white. Every race has its bad apples so don't be so quick to point the finger in one direction before knowing all the facts.

Supposedly the father was there on Monday night? Did he not notice maggots in the refigerator or crap on the walls? A house doesnt get like that in 2 days. Lying dog.

Probably some welfare mom who left town for vegas for the week. I foresee castration and sterilization in their future.

Just saying is all, hate to break it to you, but they were NOT White (check the link posted by Supergirl.)

They may not be Mexican, Anonymous, in Houston there's a good chance that they're some of the leftover Katrina refugees.

God please be with these children.Parents these days get on those street drugs and all of a sudden they forget they have children.i don't know if this is the case but if it is who ever care they were in and left them alone need to have the same ting done to them except more of it make them suffer the way these innocent childrn suffered.it does not matter the race.THE POINT IS THESE CHILDREN WERE ABANTONDED.i hope and pray that these children can recover from this.it is a tragic thing for them to experience.and to the woman that reported it thank god that someone cared enough to call authorities.you need a pat on the back and i hope those children get to say thank-you one day for saving their lives.God put u there at that moment for a reason u were their god sent angel.

Just sayin is all - the family isn't white. Just sayin.

To Anonymous @ 03:12 This mark was very racial. Maybe your hanging out with the wrong mexicans because as in every race there is good and bad but do not apply that to all mexicans!!! Check it out your self statics show that it is the " white " people that are in the news for abuse and or murder of their children, not mexicans!!!!

Posted by: LYN Location: KILLEEN on Aug 28, 2008 at 10:46 AM
concerned not all foster homes are better and loving and caring as you so stated some are the worst my husband was in foster care for 4yrs and they abused and did'nt feed him some are only in it for the money!

After all of the traggic stories about children dying in cars these last 2 weeks at least this story has a happy ending. Thank God for the woman that took the little girl to school and called CPS. She is the real hero. She took the time to help and do the right thing.

Posted by: mom on Aug 28, 2008 at 09:07 AM
To Anonymous...my husband is mexican and a better dad than many I have seen, so don't assume these people are mexican. My husband works full time, is in the Marine Corps, and goes to school...a much better person than you, I'm sure. Keep your stupid commments to yourself unless you have something educated to say.

To Anonymous at 5:24 PM - Im glad you are taking care of your grandchildren, hopefully you will raise them better than your own children. And please tell me they are not home schooled. (isnt no food? really) And to the other Anonymous that said they were probably illegals. Yeah, illegal aliens from White Trashylvania. Its right next to Trailercortia.

Posted by: anonymous Location: Austin on Aug 28, 2008 at 02:20 AM
I don't think CPS makes the decisions. It is the judge who decides what to do ultimately. Watch out for all children and call the police if it is an emergency.

Posted by: wow on Aug 28, 2008 at 01:53 AM
This is really heart breaking. It makes me feel really lucky to have the upbringing I did. I cannot imagine how anyone would let their kids suffer like that. Children are a gift from God, and God has entrusted the parents to bring them up. People need to realize that if they have children, they must prioritize them above their drug or drinking habit.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 27, 2008 at 05:24 PM
The sad part is this one case CPS wasn't called. But why like so many times people call CPS and they don't do the job. I know of local children that have been called in on and not just one person. And the CPS office overlooks what is really going on. There normally isn't no food, the parents (Dad) can't keep a job and Mom doesn't care, she will eat and not worry for her children and we won't even discuss the cleanness of the house. And yet the back is always turned. And in fact this family has had theirs taken before. So you wonder why things like this happen. How do we know CPS wasn't contacted? Maybe we should start there. I can speak I have custody of my grandchildren permantely and if you think I am talking about you--well then you need to be more on top of it. This could be anyone out there.

Posted by: concerned Location: central Texas on Aug 27, 2008 at 04:07 PM
Well God is never too busy; He was watching over these children and gave them an angel that called the authorities. The best is yet to come for these children. Now they can be in a good home that is clean and full of love and care.

Posted by: C Location: Bellmead on Aug 27, 2008 at 03:42 PM
This is a very sad and bad situation, i hope they find the parents, hopefully nothing tragic has happened to them, they or she may have been some place trying to get help or something and maybe something happened and she or they couldn't get back, maybe the whole story will come out as to the whereabouts of the parent or parents.

Posted by: Supergirl Location: Robinson on Aug 27, 2008 at 03:18 PM
Here's an article from the Houston Chronicle that gives more info: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/metro/5967292.html - What a horrible, horrible situation. I hope that those babies never go back to the parents.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 27, 2008 at 03:12 PM
PROBALLY MEXICANS!

Posted by: wacko Location: waco on Aug 27, 2008 at 02:47 PM
Why is it that you only blame the mother? Yes, she should be in trouble if she is in charge of them, but, the father should also be a part of "needs to be put away forever!"

Posted by: Anon Location: Waco on Aug 27, 2008 at 01:36 PM
How can you let your child live in such horrible conditions and then leaving them all alone? Where were the parents? At least the child had a good head on his/her shoulders and wanted to go to school. That's probably where the child was having the most fun and was more sanitary than sitting at home. I agree with the others; that lady (monster) needs the kids taken from her and never given back.

Posted by: susiebw Location: kempner on Aug 27, 2008 at 01:10 PM
Why didn't someone know this earlier? With maggots in the frig and feces on the wall, wouldn't you think they'd been alone for a while?

Posted by: Heather Location: TX on Aug 27, 2008 at 12:00 PM
I read about this on CNN.com and it stated on there that the father had no clue that the kids were there by themselves. He also said that he was there Monday night with his wife, with whom he's separated from. They authorities could not find the mother to question her. http://www.click2houston.com/news/17305355/detail.html

Posted by: Kim Location: Temple on Aug 27, 2008 at 10:12 AM
Ok, so where were the parents? Sometimes these articles are VERY vague. Are they in jail? They should be. They should never be allowed to see these poor children again. I will take them!!!

Posted by: Linda Location: Central Texas on Aug 27, 2008 at 10:09 AM
God Bless the lady that called authorities and God Bless the children. Their Mother or what ever you want to call her needs to be put away for ever and not around men. Hope they are able to find good homes for the children and that they can stay together.

Posted by: Mother of 2 Location: Gatesville on Aug 27, 2008 at 10:08 AM
The poor children. I think a prayer for each of them is in due order. Hopefully God isn't busy today!!!

Posted by: Mother of 5 Location: Waco on Aug 27, 2008 at 09:43 AM
Anybody who can allow their kids to live in such condition needs to be beat to death..If they cannot take care of their children stop having them..Lock her up in prison and let them inmates beat her to death!
