Stone Company Worker Injured After Apparent Computer Glitch Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 27, 2008)—A worker at MTTS Granite and Marble at 305 Granite Dr. in Waco was injured Wednesday afternoon, evidently because of a glitch in the computer that operates a precision granite-cutting machine.

Emergency units were dispatched to the business just after 12 p.m. Wednesday in response to a report that the worker had become trapped in the cutting machinery.

Waco Fire Marshal Jerry Hawk said a large arm on the cutting machine swung around and trapped the unidentified worker after the machine somehow reset itself.

The man’s coworkers were able to free him before firefighters and paramedics arrived.

He was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with what Hawk described as serious injuries, but is expected to recover.

Astounded, The article in the Waco paper said the worker climbed on top of the machine to try to fix it. That is when he was caught in the machine. I have compassion for the man, but the point is that he may not have been acting carefully.

Keith you evidently didn't read the article, it said the machine reset itself. That would be a glitch! Why don't you have some compassion instead of blaming the victim!

I guess they do not practice Lock/Tag/Verify when working on equipment.

What a misleading headline. This worker was not injured because of a computer glitch. He was injured because he climbed onto a powerful machine and stuck his body somewhere it wasn't supposed to be. But I guess blaming the computer instead of taking personal responsibility for your ignorance has become the new American way.

Nostradomus, not funny... he is in serious condition and this is not the time for jokes. How about you say a prayer instead!

The injured employee/future owner of the MTTS Granite Company is said to be recovering and resting well, according to his personal injury Lawyer.
