(August 27, 2008)--A Baytown teenager could face as much as 20 years behind bars after taking responsibility for a joyride crash that led to the deaths of his brother and three friends.

The Houston Chronicle reported that Bobby Davis, 16, said Tuesday he crashed a stolen sport utility vehicle into a parked train.

His admission that the allegations against him were "true" is the juvenile court equivalent of a no-contest plea, and it came after prosecutors reduced charges against him from four counts of felony murder to four counts of manslaughter, District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Donna Hawkins said.

A judge last year rejected Harris County prosecutors' request to certify Davis, then 15, to be tried as an adult.

Davis was accused of stealing a neighbor's Jeep Cherokee and taking the younger teenagers on a joyride.

The railroad crossing had no streetlights, flashing lights or crossing arms, and the tanker car that Davis struck had no reflective material to help make it visible at night.

Davis was scheduled to go on trial next week, but now faces a punishment hearing on Sept. 23.

He faces punishment ranging from probation to 20 years behind bars.

To All Young People: If you have been reading these comments in the last few weeks you've read about(1)A teenager with plans to attend Texas A&M is instead serving time in jail,(2)At least one athlete will not be using his God-given talents and enjoying life as a sports hero, but will be serving time in jail, and (3)the young man who wanted minutes of joy-riding thrill in a stolen vehicle is now facing up to 20 years in prison. With a criminal record, they will all have trouble getting jobs and credit in the future. Several will have to live their lives knowing they killed or maimed innocent people. Please, Please! Think before you do something stupid or illegal. A few moments of bad judgement can ruin your entire life. It's up to you, and nobody else.

How sad this story is. I know kids dont really think about thire actions, they just do something because it sounds fun, or they thought it was a good idea. The fact that the train had no signal to let him know it was there should be addressed also. I mean what if that was someone else. It would not be about this young CHILD, it would be about the TRAIN. I feel so sorry for all the families involved. Those that lost thire children, I Feel very sorry for the family that Lost one child and could possibly lose another due to his childish actions. I pray for all those involved.
