(August 28, 2008)—Arrest warrants have been issued for the parents of four young Houston children who were alone in a maggot-infested apartment.

The warrants name Corey Burist and Christina Zook and charge abandoning a child.

The children ranging in age from 2- to 7-years-old were found in a filthy apartment with maggots in the refrigerator and freezer and on the floor.

There were toys, shoes and trash scattered about and the children were covered in feces and urine.

The children are now in foster care, under the supervision of Child Protective Services.

The father says he does not live at the apartment, and the mother has not been located.

Burist said state care may be best for the children right now, but he said he hopes to get them back some day.

A hearing is scheduled on Sept. 4.

The children were discovered Tuesday after one of the children stopped a woman and asked for a ride for school.

The woman dropped the child off at school and then called police.

Apartment manager Eve Jordan said she found the children sitting on the floor inside the apartment.

CPS had the children evaluated at a local hospital and placed them in foster care.

I hate to hear of things like this it just breaks my heart. I have a Daycare and I care for other peoples children plus my own and there is no reason a child should be treated like this. If you don't want children than don't have them or give them to people that do want them and can't have them that will love them and take care of them. Childern are a gift from God! You should love them with all of your heart and soul and NEVER harm them.

Thankfully the children are now safe protected and being cared for. For all of you who kept saying they had to be mexican the names ZOOK and Burist are far from being mexican surnames!
