(September 1, 2008)—Four hurricane evacuees from Louisiana died overnight when the car in which they were riding to safety veered off Interstate 20 and slammed into a tree in the median near the Temple, Ga. exit in Carroll County, Ga.
Georgia State Patrol trooper Terry Thornton says it appears the driver, after many hours on the road, may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Two accident survivors were flown by medical helicopter to hospitals in Atlanta.
