Texas Man Disarms, Shoots Would-Be Intruders Save Email Print

A | A | A

(September 3, 2008)--A homeowner wrested a shotgun from an intruder and shot him and an accomplice early Wednesday in his suburban Fort Worth home, police said.

One of the men died of a gunshot wound early Wednesday in Blue Mound, while the other is hospitalized in Fort Worth.

Keith and Kellie Hoehn told police the intruders kicked in their front door and pointed a shotgun at Mrs. Hoehn's head.

She brushed the barrel aside, and a struggle ensued.

Her husband disarmed the armed intruder and shot both.

Investigators say the homeowner is unlikely be charged.

They say he shot the men out of concern for his sleeping children.

Police say they believe the intruders had broken into the garage of another house nearby earlier in the night.

BAD GUYS 0 GOOD GUYS 2 AWESOME!!

Posted by: Heather Location: Texas on Sep 4, 2008 at 10:33 PM
Thunmbs Up to this couple for protecting each other and their children! I would have done the same! {I'll bet we read a story pretty soon about the family of the man who died trying to be compensated for him dying.}

Posted by: Kate Location: Waco on Sep 4, 2008 at 07:12 PM
The wife hit the guy on the head, then kept the muzzle up and away from the direction of their children's bedrooms. The 12 yr old son grabbed his 5 yr old sister and his pellet gun then hid his little sister and himself in a closet. All of this while the father battled hand to hand with the 300 lb criminal. The entire family is heroic, sensible, and Texan. Houston news has great coverage.

He actually used the same weapon the intruders where about to use to kill them and their sleeping children. Why is someone even thinking here about charges? OMG!!!

Posted by: John E. Location: Salado, TX on Sep 4, 2008 at 01:05 PM
I may be wrong, but I think the surviving criminal will be charged with capital murder because someone died during the incident he was involved in. I don't think it matters who killed the guy or how he died. If this is true, the surviving criminal will be looking at life in prison if not the avenging needle of justice.

good job, i bet the one who is still alive will think twice before trying this again. i too agree, mention of charges, it should say man gets award for doing the right thing. he didnt go looking for trouble, it found him, and he did what he had to do. nothing is worse then a thief. good job, and i too have a new hero.

Posted by: good on Sep 4, 2008 at 09:43 AM
There shouldn't even be a mention of possible charges. He was protecting his "castle" and his family. They could have been the ones do die if he didn't do what he did. Way to go!!!!!

WOOHOO! Now that's the kind of news story that I like to read! That's what I call justice. Sir, I'd like to give you and your wife a nod and a thank you for making my day! And the liberal goobers want to take our firearms away...NO THANK YOU!!

He should have made sure that both were dead before calling the police, and getting them out of the coffee shop.

Any takers on the race of the thieves? I know, but isnt it great that this guy took 2 criminals off the street and welfare system single-handedly.

Posted by: jo Location: waco on Sep 3, 2008 at 04:54 PM

Good job guy! I'd have done the same thing if someone were to break into my home... or rather my husband would. It's nice to see one of these stories where justice is served immediately!

Good job!!

Posted by: Brody Location: Mexia on Sep 3, 2008 at 02:25 PM
Both Mr. and Mrs. Hoehn deserve our respect. They did what was necessary to defend and protect themselves and their children the only way they could!

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 3, 2008 at 01:35 PM
obviously if they got into the home it is not a 'would be intruder'......they were intruders! and got shot for their stupidity!

Posted by: Ballzmahoney Location: Waco on Sep 3, 2008 at 01:11 PM
wow! that took some guts. To bad for the man who died.

Posted by: W Location: TX on Sep 3, 2008 at 01:10 PM
we need more people like this in America and the crime rate would take a dramatic decrease, even though one person died that is the consequence he suffered from his act of ignorance and the other in the hospital, another thing there should not even be any questions or thoughts on charges filed against this man for protecting not only his home but his family, i could only imagine what would have happened if these brave people would have not took action such as they did, this is two more hoodlums off the crime list

Posted by: Ron Location: Waco on Sep 3, 2008 at 01:07 PM
Home Envasions? I know the Bible says 'Thou Shalt Not Kill'(It also says 'Thou Shalt Not Steal!!),,but keep Your gun close the the front door,,, and shoot to kill each one of them!!! This will 'stop', after we kill all of them !!!!! I also would like to shake the man's hand in Blue Mound!!!(Sorry he did not kill 'both' of them!!).

Posted by: ROFLOL Location: Temple on Sep 3, 2008 at 12:47 PM
I love it. It is about time someone took care of criminals the right way. Only problem now is the lawyers running up to the courthouse to file a lawsuit against the home owner because he defended his home to these low lifes

Posted by: jesse Location: cove on Sep 3, 2008 at 12:02 PM
"unlikely to be charged"???? Someone is actually considering it??? He should be getting an award! Are these investigators new? Are they not aware of the "castle doctrine"??

Posted by: Tex on Sep 3, 2008 at 11:42 AM
This guy is my new hero. Good job !

Posted by: The Patriot Location: Texas on Sep 3, 2008 at 11:31 AM

BRAVO!!!

Posted by: Gerry Location: Cameron on Sep 3, 2008 at 10:27 AM
Give this guy a medal.

Posted by: citizen Location: waco on Sep 3, 2008 at 10:14 AM
Good for this guy!!!!! I say we take up a collection to assist with any therapy his family might need after this ordeal. I know the trama of having two men shot in your house would have to be disturbing. However this man did what was right he was in fear of his and his family's lives so he did something about it!!!!! If more of these home invaders get done this way maybe this crime spree will end like the carjackings did after the CHL was passed....... CONGRATULATONS SIR I would be honored to shake your hand!!!!!!
