Evacuees Mourn After Sick Baby Dies Save Email Print

A | A | A

(September 3, 2008)--A New Orleans family that headed to Texas to escape Hurricane Gustav is grieving after the death of a 7-month-old girl.

Kerri Vidal says her 7-month-old daughter, Kaitlynn Foret, died after she suddenly stopped breathing on a trip to Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington.

The baby, who had a genetic disorder, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Kaitlynn died from complications of Joubert syndrome with Dandy-Walker malformation.

The family went to Six Flags to get their minds off the storm.

Vidal said she doesn't regret evacuating because her daughter's death, while an unexpected tragedy, could have happened anywhere.

I don't know why people wouldn't want to take their children to six flags. How old does your child have to be to go to six flags? Please answer that for me. I don't see anything wrong with bringing a 7 month old child to six flags. The baby didn't have a cold it had a syndrome. So what was she supose to do? Put her baby in a glass bubble and never let her see outside? I don't understand how people think. I see some people understand. Thanks for the suport. She really needs it.

MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO VIDAL-FORET FAMILY, THEY HAD TO GET THINGS OFF THEIR MIND AND NOW THIS, I FEEL FOR THEM THE PRESSURE OF HAVING AN ILL CHILD THEN HAVING TO FLEE TO SAFETY, THEN THE BABY BECOMES SO ILL IT DIES, THEY WERE TRYING TO EASE SOME OF THE PRESSURE OFF THEIR MINDS & NOW THEY HAVE TO SUFFER MORE PAIN & PRESSURE & DEAL WITH SOME OF THESE IGNORANT PEOPLE WHO HAVE TO ASK WHY WOULD THEY TAKE THEIR ILL BABY TO SIX FLAGS, POSSIBLY THEY HAVE OLDER CHILDREN & WANTED TO GET THEM OUT SO THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH SO MANY CHANGES IN THEIR LIVES!! GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU, THAT CANT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY MADE THE DECISION TO TAKE THEIR FAMILY TO SIX FLAGS, ITS LIKE THEY SAID IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED ANYWHERE & AT ANY TIME!! I FEEL FOR THEM BECAUSE IT HAD TO HAPPEN NOW ON TOP OF EVERYTHING ELSE THEY ARE GOING THROUGH!GOD BLESS THE FORET & VIDAL FAMILY!!GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!!

I FEEL VERY SAD FOR THIS FAMILY,AND MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THEM,BUT I HAVE TO ASK, IF THEY KNEW THAT THE BABY WAS SICK IN THE FIRST PLACE,WHY TAKE A LITTLE 7 MONTH OLD TO SIX FLAGS,I MEAN, I AM NOT TRYING TO PASS JUDGEMENT, BUT I HAVE THREE DAUGHTERS AND IF I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF ESCAPING A HURRICANE, AND ALSO ON TOP OF THAT A SICK CHILD,THE LAST THING ON MY MIND WOULD BE SIXFLAGS,ESPECIALLY IF MY LITTLE 7 MONTH OLD WAS SICK! LIKE I SAID MY PRAYERS ARE WITH THE FAMILY,AND I GUESS EVERYONE HANDLES STREE A LITTLE DIFFERENT.

I took my daughter at younger than that because she had a brother who was old enough to love it. She liked the scenery and all the colors, plus they have a whole section for little kids now. I applaud the family for not blaming the storm and for not having regrets. You tried to do something nice for your family. I'm so sorry for your loss and our prayers are with you.

I am truly sorry for this family's loss. What a terrible time for them. PS. Babies and mothers of babies are allowed to go to six flags if and when they please!!! It's not as if the baby passed due to riding a roller coaster.

Escaping danger to saftey and to live with a tragedy of a baby is very sad.

Posted by: killeen on Sep 3, 2008 at 08:02 PM
the baby had a genetic disorder that caused it to die, where in the rules does it say a 7 month old can't go to six flags? It wasn't riding the rides and it wasn't neglected

Now that is a sad story. My thoughts and prayers go to the family. I would also like to say that enlight of the hurricane, its nice to see someone who doesnt blame something like this on the evacuation like so many others do. Once again, I am sorry for your loss.
