(September 3, 2008)--More than 20 former judges and prosecutors asked Gov. Rick Perry Wednesday to stop the scheduled execution of Charles Dean Hood.

Hood is scheduled to die next Wednesday, two days before a hearing is scheduled on whether a now-former judge and prosecutor had an unethical romance during his trial.

The former judges and prosecutors want Perry to delay the execution until the hearing can be held.

Perry's office had no immediate response.

He has the authority to block executions with a one-time 30-day reprieve.

Hood was sentenced to die for the 1989 shooting deaths of Tracie Lynn Wallace and her boyfriend, Ronald Williamson, in Plano.

Hood's lawyers contend the alleged secret relationship between now retired Judge Verla Sue Holland and former Collin County District Attorney Tom O'Connell tainted the trial.

Holland and O'Connell, who's now in private practice, have declined to address the allegations.

this story sounds familiar like the guy that murdered another guy outside of marlin and you never heard anything about it is because he was a office clerk in Ms. Gilliam's office, wonder why the media hasn't been on this one? and it was all over the county that she had an affair with this same dude hmmm

I believe this man is guilty and was proven so with a preponderance of evidence. So all you saying or thinking that he didnt get a fair trial because the Judge and DA were bumping uglys, are you saying if it was you in this situation YOU couldnt be fair? The judges job is to make sure that the trial is run fair, it is NOT to make sure the DA has a good conviction record. Were they in the wrong for what they did? Absolutely! Did it effect the outcome of this trial? I dont think so Tim!

Rick Perry has become a liberal dumocrate! Hopefully, he will be kicked out of office next election. Sorry, I ever supported him! Seems the longer Perry is in office, the more of a bleeding heart liberal ideology takes him over!

Ok, so I was doing some research on this guy, because I'm not going to assume that he was GUILTY just because they said so. There are some Death Row inmates that believe it or not, are innocent. But THIS MAN, Hes GUILTY!!! The only reason is because they feel that he didnt receive a fair trial. If the ruling is overturned, I bet he'll just get a Life Sentence with the time served already counting. Funny thing also, THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME HIS LIFE HAS BEEN SPARED. His Execution has been halted numerous times.

Execute the killer Charles Hood for the murder. Then take the judge and lawyer to the Texas Bar and if they violated the code of conduct/ethics, then dis-bar them both, fine them and jail them. Either way, a killer should pay for his crime.

I suspect he is guilty, but that is not the point. If the prosecutor and judge are romantically involved it could lead to a presumption that she may have ruled on motions in his favor and against the defendant. The hallmark of the American judicial system is fairness, but this conduct makes it questionable if the trial was fair. Why is everyone so quick to want to kill the defendant without considering whether he had a "fair" trial. It may cost some additional tax dollars, but if the trial was tainted that is a small price to pay to maintain the integrity of our system. If he is guilty, then a new trial, conducted fairly, should bear that out and not tarnish the process.

The judge and the DA had an affair, they didn't shoot those kids. Hood murdered the kids and it doesn't have a thing to do with the judge and DA then, and doesn't have anything to do with them now.

I'd like more details on this. Did the affair just now surface or have they known about it for a long time?? Was it a jury trial or a judge trial? Was there any doubt he was guilty? If it's cut and dry don't waste our money. Don't let another criminal buy some time milking a flawed system.

They already spent the money to get to this point, what's an extra 50 bucks to juice him??

Another prime example of our judges and lawyers wasting tax payers money for some stupid happening that does not have anything to do with this low life being guilty.

Oh my the Justice system at work again schedule a hearing for 2 days after the guy is supposed to be dead. Why not actually schedule the hearing alot earlier so he doestn get interrupted on his way to the injection room.. Perry needs to stay out of this.

this just proves that these days most of the judges who are suppose to make sure that a penalty for crime or murder should be carried out that most of them have their heads so far up their as@*!@ they can't see daylight, quit wasting time and money on this piece of crap and remove him from taking up space for the next goon to get the needle

Was it a jury trial or did the judge convict this killer. If it was a jury trial he was convicted by his peers. The longer this takes, the more it costs us, John Q. Taxpayers.

Posted by: GLC Location: Waco on Sep 3, 2008 at 04:29 PM
Who cares if the prosecutor and judge were involved. The man killed two people and now it's time for him to pay his dues. Quit wasting tax payer money on these rediculous ideas.

Posted by: Just sayin is all Location: Ft Hood on Sep 3, 2008 at 03:35 PM
If the evidence was strong enough to convict, I could care less if they did it on the stand during trial!

Posted by: Mac Location: TX on Sep 3, 2008 at 03:22 PM
Let's not keep the thug waiting. Give him the needle, he has earned it!

Posted by: KKA Location: WACO on Sep 3, 2008 at 03:18 PM
WHO CARES...Why delay, it is not going to save his life. He will get the injection sooner or later so why wait. is he afraid to die, should of thought about that before he took two lives. SORRY WIMP !!!

What difference does it make as to whether or not the judge and the attorney were having a relationship? The man killed two people!!!! He should pay the price!

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 3, 2008 at 02:28 PM
I do not understand what this is going to prove. Did he or did he not kill those two innocent people? It never says there was not enough evidence against him or that he claims his innocence. This is all about a supposed affair between a judge and attorney. How does this change his status as a murderer who deserves death?
