(September 11, 2008)-- Baylor University officials were closely monitoring developments Thursday evening as Hurricane Ike approached the Texas Gulf Coast, but say they have no plans at this point to close the university, although Baylor’s football game with Washington State was moved from Saturday morning to 7:30 p.m. Friday because of the approaching storm.
The university is advising students to park vehicles in parking garages over the weekend and to avoid areas of the campus that are prone to flooding, such as along Waco Creek.
The university’s public address system and emergency notification system will be used to alert students should severe weather develop, the university said.
Baylor said it’s encouraging students to stay off the highway this weekend because of the heavy traffic resulting from evacuations from coastal counties.
