(September 12, 2008)—President Bush was in Oklahoma Friday and was urging Texans to heed the warnings of local officials as Hurricane Ike churns toward the middle Texas coast.

Mr. Bush said he is monitoring the progress of the hurricane and urged Texans to "listen carefully" to authorities in the Galveston area.

Officials are calling for evacuation of Galveston and low-lying areas of Houston.

At Tinker Air Force Base, Mr. Bush honored Dan Rooney of Tulsa and Karen Stark of Edmond for projects they created to help soldiers.

He will also take part in a discussion about health care and attend a fund-raiser for Republican presidential nominee John McCain.
