(September 15, 2008)--Authorities were trying to confirm Monday whether a body that washed ashore on North Padre Island is that of a 19-year-old Corpus Christi man who was swept into the Gulf of Mexico by strong waves from Hurricane Ike.

Corpus Christi Police Chief Bryan Smith says police know the body is that of Michael Page Moxley but are working to confirm the identity.

Moxley disappeared Friday when a large swell swept him from the Packery Channel south jetty into the rocks.

The body washed ashore on Sunday.

Meanwhile, one of two onlookers who tried to help Moxley remained hospitalized and was on a ventilator.

Billy Wayne Long's wife told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times that his face was shattered from the eye socket down.
