(September 16, 2008)—The Communities in Schools program in Killeen said Tuesday it needs help to find clothes for Gulf Coast children who were evacuated from the path of Hurricane Ike and who are now sheltered in Central Texas and enrolling in local schools.
About 160 children from evacuee families are attempting to enroll in Killeen schools while they stay in Killeen and Harker Heights, and many of them left most of their clothing behind when they fled their homes.
Mary Barr of Communities in Schools says there’s a need for clothes for children in Pre-K through 12th grade to wear to school.
Donations are being accepted at the Communities in Schools’ office at 4520 E. Central Texas Expressway Suite 106, which is adjacent to Patriot Pontiac.
