(September 17, 2008)—Hundreds of residents of several Central Texas counties were without power for another day, schools were closed and boil orders were in effect, four days after Hurricane Ike stormed through, downing tree limbs and power lines.
In Leon County, a boil order is in effect in Normangee, where schools are closed for a third day.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is distributing ice and water in both Normangee and Centerville, and gasoline and diesel fuel are available at Grimes Exxon on Highway 39 in Normangee.
Boil notices are also in effect for the Flo Water System and St. Paul's System in eastern Leon County.
In Milam County, classes were cancelled for a third day Wednesday in the Gause ISD.
In hard-hit Robertson County, schools in the Mumford ISD, Franklin ISD and Bremond ISD were closed again Wednesday.
The only grocery stores able to open were in Hearne.
Water and ice are available at the Calvert Fire Department, the Pridgeon Center in Franklin and at Bremond High School.
Residents who live outside of Hearne were asked to contact police to find out where food is being served, as the county arranges for mobile kitchens to help feed those in need.
