(September 17, 2008)--The International Boundary and Water Commission says four people are dead after their plane crashed while they were checking on flooding along the Rio Grande.

The dead included the leaders of the U.S. and Mexican sections of the IBWC, which maintains the border between the two countries.

The U.S. Border Patrol said the wreckage of the plane was found late Wednesday morning in a rugged section of the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico.

The plane had been missing since Monday, when it took off from El Paso to check out flooding on the Rio Grande.

The crash site was about 20 miles northwest of Presidio and 13 miles from the Rio Grande.
