(September 19, 2008)--The Wortham ISD superintendent is thanking authorities and his staff for their response to a bomb threat Friday.
Superintendent Albert Armer says a bomb threat to the school district was called in to a 911 operator at about 11 a.m. Friday.
Local authorities were notified of the threat, and the district saw an immediate response from Wortham Police, the Wortham Volunteer Fire Department, the Freestone County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Ft. Hood also responded with four bomb detection units.
Crews checked the interior and exterior of all the buildings and did not find anything they deemed as a threat.
Students had been evacuated and dismissed to their parents.
Armer says he wants to express special appreciation to his faculty and staff for their calm and professional reaction to the situation, and also thanks all the authorities who responded to the threat.
